cf front lip

Mods if this is in the wrong spot please move.

I was talking to Jose from Ionic Dynamics about getting a cf frront lip for the 5th or 5.5th gen. Below is his response.

My question is which would you prefer him to make the 5th or 5.5th gen lip.

Jason:

Hi! We actually already tried to make the maxtuning lip in CF, we could never make the molds right because the urethane was to wavy. We also have another problem here, there are two different types of front bumpers available for the 5th gen, and with how the maxima market is dying I'm unsure that it would be cost effective to make 2 sets of molds. Could you find out what people were doing back in the day where there wasn't a front lip available for the 5.5 gen? I remember reading that some people were cutting the 5th gen stillen lip a bit to make it fit the 5.5 gen. If we can work something out where we can use the same lip to fit all 5th gens and you can get at least 10 buyers at 300 shipped then this is something that we would be willing to work on.

Please let me know what you find out

Thanks!

Jose.

300 imo is hela steep for a part that will, more than likely, get the crap beat out of it on driveways and curbs.

ask him to make it from the stillen lip mold.
Reason being..
1. The MT lip is Very LOW.. so cracking the lip is a higher possibility
2. THe MT lip has 2 stages, where theres a thin skirt on the bottom then the actual top portion, so i doubt a thin piece of CF like the MT bottom portion would be strong.
3. The stillin lip is higher, and is a 1 piece with no top and bottom seperation.

If a stillen lip is made i would DEF buy one for $300 .. i have $$$ ready.

It's not that much more than a Stillen lip...

But CF is not really impact resistant... I would not trust it at all.

Granted yes its not to trust worthy if used as a DD. But it would be nice to throw it on once in a while for a meet/ car show etc.

Id love to get one either in MT OR Stillen style. Either way im interested.

I am going to leave this up for the week and if i see alot of votes I will emial him with this thread so he can see the interest.

I ask if you have or are voting to put a reply so Jose can actually see the response.

Ask Ionic Dynamics if he could do an overlay for cheaper. For the people that already have the stillen lip all you would have to do is send it in. I've got a spot here called Buddy Club II that do overlays. I could ask them.

I would do it if it was the MT style... The stillen lip IMO is not as nice looking as the MT, and if i were to spend the money i would just get a Stillen and paint to match. I think the extra cost would be worth it to have another design to choose from

As they stated in the first post they tried with the MT style lip and it didn't work.

um...its gonna get F'd up if its not flexible...it will be for show only basically....unless your on a lifted maxima.

why not just do a urathane and make it cheaper that whats offered...it would be more forgiving on driveways and such

umm..duh.

We already have the urathane versions so why would we want any more produced by diffrent companies ??? jsut to save a couple bucks ? yea right

Well like i stated above no way can CF be flexable LOL, so it will be only for show purposes. THis is very nice for people who go to shows, and jsut for meets.

Here is the problem with that...

Almost every car in the 5th gen forum is a daily driver... ID would sell VERY few to people willing to pay $300 for a show only piece (at least on this cheapskate forum). Then to top it all off... The bumper is different on the 02-03's... This is not the first time someone has pushed to get a CF lip for 5th gens...

It is just not worth the PIA to make them, there is really no $$ in it for them.

CF may not be the way to go, but i do think that it would be nice to have another company make another option than just the ugly ricey body kits and the stillen classic lip... and if it means getting a CF lip in order to have something better looking than the classic lip, then i am willing to take that chance....

well all they need is 10 people to make a CF lip for the 5.5 gen.

I honeslty think 10 people out of the THOUSANDS here will be able to cough up $300 for some nice SHOW.

I want to see how it looks! I'd be in once you got a prototype

If you got a kit for all around I'd be intrested too.

I had an idea for it posted in the regional forums, but never got to it.

Ok here is a slight update. Jose said it will be the 5.5th gen lip and he was gonna talk to his partner about it.

guys for those who have voted for the 5.5th gen lip remember it will look like the stillen lip. They tried the mt lip and it did not work. Keep that in mind.

As for you 5th gens I see there is 7 people who want it and I am waiting to here if we can get 10 5th gens would he make those as well.

VIS never made a LIP kit for a 5th gen, they made the disgusting body kit thou.

I'm down for a CF lip, if not I will have mine overlayed this winter when the car is hibernating.

#1: My CF trunk was VERY flexable. It got hit with a sledgehammer from a fireman and it bounced right off. It was actually comical...except they were smashing my trunk open to put out a fire in my car...While i can see the lip not being as strong it's not horrible.

#2: I'v never hit anything with my front lip and i'm lowered. It's really not hard just be careful and if your not sure STOP. get out. Look. Then adjust as needed. A good way to learn is have a friend stand in front and tell you how close you are. Pull out and in for practice and do it for 10 minutes. You'll Be a champ.

#3: Oats i like your lip...i'd like it better if it was on your car!!! Get that thing installed!!! $100 bucks @ Mals!

#4: I'm down and got $$$ in hand for a CF front lip.

WTF happened that you had a fire in your car?!?!?!

o yeah, its good that the 5.5 is gonna be produced because 5th genners sometimes use the 5.5 front bumper, but the 5.5 genners never use a 5 gen bumper

Looks like they are trying to get 10 for each... One 5.5 lip and one 5.0 lip.

As I said before, good luck getting them all, in typical Org fashion 100 people are "in" then when it comes time to pay, 4 of them do.

They still sell a mock of this lip. My boy just got one not too long ago. It's made of polyurethane as well. They call it Stealth Front lip. It's for the 02/03.

Just put your pointer over where the image should be and it'll show.

I made a chop a while back since I planned on doing one. Never got to it since I wanted a clean look. CF was too tuner looking with only a lip / nothing else to compliment it.
