i would suggest taking out the plastic shifter mount and seeing where that gets you. if nothing else there will be more room.

PS: how did that happen?!?!

i say weld it. i mean you could install that new one which sounds like a pain in the **** but i know its sounds ghetto but that could be a band-aid fix until you figure out how to install the new one.

edit: do you guys think that the sts had something to do with it? it might be a possible suspect. just a thought.

Happened to me:

It is a pain in the *** to replace. You have to have the car up on a lift to see where it meets the interior. Inside the car, you have to actually unbolt and lift your ECU to allow the linkage to be removed. I'm sorry you have to go thru it. I hated it, and actually drove the car for a week like that. I had the ES bushing (Red) as you can see, and somewhat attributed that to the stiffness and added wear on my linkage. I also believe I overtightened that bolt and didn't give the bushing enough lubrication.

JB Weld will NOT work, I repeat, will NOT work. Tried it, snapped right off again.

How did I drive like that? It was actually pretty simple. I moved the **** left and right to choose the gate, then I either pushed or pulled to get into gear. I was waiting for my shifter cable to arrive in the mean time. Trust me, I cut up my hand/knuckles pretty bad just shifting.

It happened one day after I pulled out of work. Noticed the shifting got a lot looser. Went into fourth and felt sooooo easy. Tried to shift down, and.... nothing happened. Ripped apart my center console, then BAM, there she was.

To the OP, if I didn't have a friend who could've helped me, I would've paid someone. It is a ridiculously stupid process to do. Good luck man, and I wished no one else had to go thru this.

Custom... made it my self. , the filter it self sits in the bumper right behind the driver foglight. 3" straight down, with the MAF sensor pluged into the intake it self.

Hey when you lifted the ECU.. did you take it out ? i found 2 screws holding the ecu .. are those the only ones ? i took out those 2 screws and lifted up the ecu , then held it up with a small screw driver went undet the car and pulled it out. OMG pulling it out is such a ***** !

NOW.. how the HELL did you get it back in ?? from inside the car i cant even locate the hold from where the thing exited from lol. and theres BARELY any room for me to squeeze my hand in under the car to push it in.. arrr... Please enlighten me how u put a new 1 in ...

i know i gatta drop the 2 new rods from the top behind that big black things going from side to side i forget what its called ( the BS thats blocking it all lol).. then did you put them in 1 by 1 while sum1 pulled it in from inside or what ?

i did all this alone, my friends comign by in about 4 hours to help me ill have an extra set of hand then..

So far everythings out, now i gatta put it all back in.

Damn that sounds like it sucks but atleast you're halfway done! Gotta love the fixes that are way more complicated than they should/need to be. Good luck.
