Well, after babying my max for 1036 miles, driving mildly with only an occasional 5k rpm run, I decided to test her out. I took her to a spot where some ppl drag at night. Obviously, being a thursday, no one was there (this is suburbia, not a city - weeknights are boring). Anyway, it was about midnight, and the place was deserted. So, I did a couple of 0-80 runs in mock imitation of a 1/4. No brake torquing, manually shifting my auto. And all I can say is wow. WOW. This car is friggin unbelievable. The power builds in a real swift, smooth rush until your screaming at 6500 rpms. Its crazy not only how fast this car is, but how incredibly smooth - its velvet. Good god, The power down low is a little wanting (especially the bog at takeoff - brake torque might help) but once you swing past 3500 its almost like a turbo kicks in. It's almost orgasmic! This is the absolute best car on the planet! Exaggeration maybe, but I can't believe what I've been missing for the past 3 week of break in...

Sorry this was so long, I was mildly excited...

PS I tried racing an early 90's Taurus SHO on the street. He had tint, a stick (could see him shifting) and an exhaust, but he wouldn't play. I was disappointed.

Careful messing with SHO's, they can be very fast, I traded my 94 SHO 5spd in for my 2K1 5spd Max. I loved my SHO, and they are quite easy to mod, www.shoshop.com, you can, in theroy, get nearly 500HP out of that Yamaha engine.

Ya, my best friend had a 92 SHO with a 5spd until just a few months ago. That thing was so fast. That's actually the car I learned to drive a stick in. And its amazing how many simlarities there are between the max and the old sho. dohc, 4 valves a cylinder, 3L v6, 220 or so HP, 5 spd available. And about the same weight too i believe.

Good cars.

It gets better. I've got almost 7K on my max now, and I think it pulls stronger than it did 5K miles ago.

Oh, and do try to keep it in your pants.

Yes they are both very good. I wish people would make the same kind of mods for the Max like they do the SHO. I beleive they use the same type of intake system, normal driving only 6 intake valves are open, WOT driving past a set RPM 6 more valves open up letting the engine breath easier.

Me too

Years ago I owned a 1994 SHO 5spd and damn it was fast for sure! Very similar qualities as my 2k1 Max 5spd. Hard to launch off the line very fast and consistantly.

A friend of mine had a 94 SHO HDL.. That was the fastest car I've ever been in.... He had a STS, Chip, Intake, and all kinds of other mods done.. No cosmetics... The only thing he did was Tint his windows... He sold it last year ... He used to beat the new Corvettes and M3's... His top speed was 180... I wish I would have bought it... Oh well... I still love my Max

Well, I was planning on it but prolly not for a while. I need tint first, then some foglights (dang GXE), a FSTB, then the OSCAI, then prolly the ypipe. I think that might be it. I dunno. Maybe a system...

Its a Ford Taurus SHO, not sure what the HDL means, but he kept telling me if I get one to get the HDL one... I think it might be the top of the line SHO.. I think I'll ask him tomorrow....

The high-end torque on the Max is pretty amazing. Took it fast several times on the way and coming back from Vegas. It just seems to keep going even when you expect it to slow. Awesome!

As for UMD, I don't see Kev anywhere. Quit getting people to spend $$$.

I'd say the finger would have to be pointed at Kev and Nauman both. Over the last month I've added the OSCAI V2.0, FSTB, RSB, UDP, & Y-pipe (tomorrow!), and I'm still looking for more. Great, now I know what it feels like to be addicted to crack...and Kev and Nauman are my pushers.
