Life Expectancy for Stock Muffler

Can you reuse welded tips ?
I would like to see what everyone sees is the typical life of a stock muffler.
Why, I am wondering if it is worth it to throw on welded tips if the muffler will be trash soon @ 82k miles?
Leading to another Q, can you re-use welded tips once they are installed and eliminate these questions all together?

it depends on where you live. if you live in florida, it can last a long time. but up here in the north east, we see snow. so that means salt. so it will probably rust away depending on how often you wash the bottom of your car during the winter months. your better off getting something stainless.

Good question
This question is ironic in that my 01 GLE stock muffler setup just went Sunday at 98,000 miles....The flange closest to the muffler finally rusted away thanks thanks to Ohio salt/winters....I went to a muffler shop and had them cut out the flange and weld a sleeve to put the exhaust back together for $30....Other than that one problem the stock muffler set up looked intact as I inspected it with the mechanic...

the muffler is going to be fine...if you do some research you'll find that hte flange is the problem more so than the muffler.
yes you car reuse the tip's as long as they don't have big giant gob's from welding them on (i painted my muffler with high temp satin black after wards)...they just need to be tacked on. BUT i highly dought that if your exhuast goes you'll by a factory muffler at the price they are chaging for it from hte dealer. for thte same price you can get a s/s Catman cat-back.
here's an idea though...just a though...why not go under the car and see what kind of condition its in?

I have a '02 Max with 103k on the odometer. The flange rusted away on me earlier this summer. Long story short (eBay rear section purchased installed/removed, etc.) I ended up putting a new flange on the OEM muffler, adding 2 new stainless tips and reinstalling it.
The muffler will outlast the flange and I see no near future that my muffler will need replaced, especially since I replaced the flange.

For 50 bucks Id rather do that than spend a couple of hundered on a new muffler.
