I think, maybe it just me , that when I brake I get this shake in the steering wheel. It doesn't happen all the time though. And it happens sometimes on high speeds braking and regular stop light braking.

Are my rotors bad?

I heard some time back people were saying that rotors on 2000 Max are defective and stuff??

Any info on that?

It didn't do it when I first got the car but now i have 17K miles on it and am noticing it alot more...I was just going to have the rotors cut. But if they are defective wure would like to know. Could be part of the front brake noise for all I know.

Can be a few things... warped rotors (what I have), alignment problem, or wheel balance problem.

By what you're saying, it seems like you have warped rotors. Hopefully Got Rice can find 2k rotors for us.

 

i had that problem before, both front rotors were replaced underwarranty. oh kev, drop by stanford nissan, u might get new rotors..

Dude the rotors on our Max's SUCK! I go extremely easy on my brakes b/c my Honda before it was notorious for rotor warpage...well I got 90k on the Honda brakes before I had the shake I do now at 18k on my new Max. It's really my only complaint about the Max. There is no way I will be replacing them with another set of factory rotors since it's clearly in the design b/c we all have the same prob. Mine only shake when braking at highway speeds but obviously I can look foward to them shaking at all speeds eventually!! WTF!


What are our options for aftermarket replacements? Stillen?

I finally figured out my situation. My steering wheel does not shake a slower speeds, even if I brake very hard. If I'm above 50 and apply the brakes even gently, the wheel shakes until I get down to 40 or so. This is definitely a rotor problem. I'll get this looked at when I get my trunk fixed on Tuesday. Sigh. I've had less problems on my '96 Taurus then I have with this car. (TCM, trunk scratch problem, and now rotors.)

Welcome to the club Paul....except my former car was 91 Celica GTS that is making this new "Nissan" look worse and worse every day......

Haven't had the rotor problem yet....I believe yet is the key word here....man..can't wait to get a new car that is supposed to be like a "new" car.

I'll go on record as saying that this Maxima is the worst new car purchase I've ever made......takes more than a great engine to make a car

 

The brakes are the weakest part IMHO in the maxima. I haven't had much brake trouble myself but I have had to replace rotors in my car's life. Also I believe that rotors might be label as a "normal wear item" so they might not be fixed under warrenty. Of course you could just buy 300zxTT calipers/rotors that will fix the problem.

 

I have noticed my problem here for the last 5-6K of driving. I am not sure though if someone warped my rotors when I had the brake pads changed. In any case, I won't feel the steering wheel vibrations unless I brake from 70+...and then there is a bit of vibration and brake squeal...other than that below that mph, it brakes fairly decently...*sigh* you guys aren't the first ones to have these problems. They seemed to have carried over problems from 4th generations to the 2k max, also.
