headlights and radio working are NOT synonomous with a good battery. the only true tale way to test a battery is to bring it somewhere that has a machine. what people dont seem to understand is that the 20 odd amps it takes to run the accessories isnt even close to the 250-300 it takes to run the starter. take the battery to an auto store, they will test it free. ride the schwin if you have to...or you could get a jump...or pop the clutch.

PS: popping the clutch is guaranteed to work if your headlights turn on

everything is work fine. the radio, cd, alram, headlights, trunk are nothing wrong with it.

I disconnected the batteries and clean the positive head and negative with steel brush but still nothing happened

I tried to jump with my sister's car but there was nothing happened. instead the sound like you turn the ignition key and to start the car without pressing the clucth.

nobody can help me to push my car. i wish i can kick it with hitting the clucth

i was 80% sure if that was my starter. or maybe any problem beside the starter like alternator

what kind of car does your sister drive? theres a chance it doesnt put out enough amps to jump your car. i couldnt jump my riding lawn mower with my sisters saturn...seriously though, just push it and pop the clutch. then if the starter isnt working IT WILL STILL START

Could be your battery. My system still slapped after like an hour of slapping but when I tried to crank the car, it wouldn't start.

she has civic Si. i told her to hit the pedal to increase the rpm. that one is still not enough to make a jump?

the crank is sound weak when your batteries is weak. but mine the first time is weak. so i just realize this must be my starter. i grabbed a hammer with long steel rod to bang the starter. after i bang couple of times, the starter won't crank anymore

Jump starting these cars can be a trick. I had a heck of a time trying to jump start my 99 with my buddy's grand prix GTP. Seriously, have your sister drive you down to the auto parts store with your battery, get it tested. That is always the first thing to do. Starters don't just "go". They give you trouble for a while first.

i have been in a situation more than once where someones battery was dead and there was ZERO sound from the starter, like there was a cable disconnected. sometimes it will sound weak, sometimes it will click, sometimes you get nothing...pop the clutch

cant you push it? i can push mine fast enough to pop the clutch. sure, it takes an extra 25ft of pushing, but its not a problem. i guess if your street is uphill both ways it would be tough though. of course, if you can wait then just wait. im talkin if you NEED to get somewhere

just roll it down hill. You always got the brakes to save you.

Finally t i took my battery to autozone to test it. the battery was good so the main problem is the starter. bought starter from autozone $149.99 with return the old one. $189.99 without return the old one.

changed it myself, now my car started like a brand new. thanks god maxima's starter is the easiest starter to change it.

THANKS ALOT GUYS FOR THE INPUT. you all my friends

i'm glad you figured out the problem.. my battery just died about a week ago, so i feel your pain.. did the starter give you any signs before it finally died?

sometimes when i try to start my car i have to crank it for maybe 3 seconds longer than i normally do before it finally fires up.. this is only once in a while, and it has been doing it ever since i got the car in april of 06... bad starter?

It does work with the reverse gear i've done it. The brakes do work if you press hard enough and you have the e-brake as well.

If you don't want to pop the clutch in reverse, what you can do is let the car roll in reverse and have the wheel turned so it can turn the other way.

there is no sign at all. it's suddenly just like that.

i had the same problem like yours. sometimes when i release the key too early before the engine is on, it takes me 3 sec to turn it on. i guess that is normal for maxima.

This morning i did it on purpose. i took out the key before the engine was on and then i started it again. it was no problem for me and i don't need to crank for 3 sec. i think that's the sign for bad starter

oh my bad.. i read your post wrong.. i dont take out my key too early.. i just crank it normally and it takes about 3 seconds for it to fire up.. so is that a sign of a bad starter, or is it true that there are no warning signs for a bad starter?
