I am sorry man, It does not look that bad though, I don't think will be totaled, and her insurance should pay for everything. God thing you are ok.

Damn that blows it doesn't even look like she made a concerted effort to slow down. Probably speaking on the phone and not paying attention to the road. Maybe we should start making automatic transmissions illegal if this kind of sh*t persist.

what does being a bad/good driver have anything to do with the transmission in your car? If anything, make it illegal to talk on a cell and drive. sorry to hear about your ride though. Should be an easy fix.

Doesn't look as bad as Kloogy's when he got rear-ended, but it depends on your Ins co. Definitely sucks though. Hopefully everyone involved was insured.

Damn, sorry for both of you. I guess this is just a coincidence, but my friends 06 Acura RSX just got rear-endeed yesterday too. And he also was pushed into another car. All that it did to his car was snap a couple bumper clips and push the bumper up into the hatch, and put a good size dent into the front bumper. Some people need to go back to driver's ed.

Absolutely nothing. Most cars on the road today are automatics, and the majority of drivers get from A to B safely and considerately.

However, those who are terrible drivers who like to perform tasks that limit their attention on the road, such as change their clothes, talk on the phone, put on their makeup, shave, brush their hair, send text messages, do homework, read a book, watch a DVD, milk the cows, walk the dog, mow the lawn, etc., generally have an easier time doing all of this with the benefit of an automatic transmission. Actually, someone who drives a manual wouldn't have a prayer of performing most of these tasks effectively. At least to some extent, it forces the driver to put their attention where it should be most: the road. The number one cause of accidents is NOT speed, it's not paying attention.

Now there is a FABULOUS idea! I agree whole-heartedly. Now if only the state of New York, in addition to CT, NJ, and D.C. had done that...

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. There isn't a real effective way to enforce this law, other than the person being stupid enough to admit they were talking on the phone. Other than that, all they have to say is "no officer, I wasn't on the phone..." and there is no way to prove they were.

Bones...

My condolences bro... terrible to see

not nearly as bad as the damage on reelop's car, although if it was 10k in damage it would be considered totalled for your car. pics of the front?

100% agree.
Someone that can't drive standard causes their driving skill to decrease dramatically in my eyes!

Wow, I'm glad you are ok also. It will be interesting to see what the insurance company says.

I agree with driving a standard tranny. It requires quite a bit of attention. If you have a newer driver, eating and driving will be challenging, let alone, holding a phone to their ear, shifting and hanging on to the wheel.

I'm really sorry for you but also glad your in one piece, alive and kicking.
Please put some pressure to the insurance company so they totaled your car because honestly this car is totalled, I wouldn't want this car to be repaired.

Funny how I'm taking that route to go to work this morning. Glad you're ok, even if your Max is pretty much totaled. Good luck with whatever you end up driving.

I'm always afraid of being rear-ended. I feel the chances of that happening are much higher than me running into someone else on my own. I continually see drivers stop very quickly and suddenly behind me whenever I'm at a stop light that I actually scoot up a bit to avoid/lessen any potential impact.

My aunt backed into my car with a dodge caravan, her bumper was completely crunched in and ruined. I looked at my bumper and it had maybe 3 small paint chips, nothing else 0_o

They can take a hit.

I have learned to leave a rather sizeable gap between me and the car infront, because of the ones behind not paying attention.

Doesn't always work (I've been rear ended 3 times)......

Quick update on this.. I should know more by mid week.

Car was looked at by Geico (outstanding service so far, and Im a tough cookie with that type of stuff). the guy said he was up to $7500 in damages before he got to the front of the car (not much damage to the front.. mostly cosmetic)

He said it would probably be a total loss. Un f**king believeable. Car is in awesome shape, has 54k, and its gone. Im pissed off. The only good part is that because it did have such low miles, and was in good shape, I should be getting about $12k for it. Considering I bought it 3 years ago for $14995, thaty is a sweet deal.

I go to the train station most days, so there is no point in getting a nice car for there. The wife drives 60 miles a day for work, so Ill take her old Jetta (2000, 84000miles) and she will get the new car.

whatever that might be. Possibly a 02/03 Volvo S60.

I made a joke to the geico guy saying "Can I get the money and keep the car?"

He actually said you might be able to, but they would give you less money. Not sure how much less.

Hmmmmm..Part out? Make it a station car? Who knows..

Stay tuned.

Can you put your 'feelers' out to the vultures? They might make it worth your while to keep it and part it...... Check classifieds/parts.

First of all it is the law in New Jersey to talk on the cell phone.. they no longer have to pull you over for something else to pin you for using a cell phone its a primary offense now.
