2K1-SE - Check Engine Light
Check Engine Light came on yesterday. Brought to dealer this AM, who after looking at it said "It lost its program. Has to be reprogrammed, which will take 2 hours".
What's going on? Don't feel I got a straight answer. If getting "reprogrammed", will the new program automatically include the "Fuel Cut" TSB?
Thx for any comments!

thats strange... if the ECU loses everything, then does the car even run? All the fuel maps and everything are gone? Anyhow, if they reprogram the thing, it should include the most up-to-date stuff.... so that is good..
The car ran fine. I noticed no changes, other then the light being on. When I brought it in, based on the car running well, I thought it might be the sensor after the cat-converter. To late for second opinion, as they are working on it now.
Do I need to worry as long as the light is out and the car runs fine? Let them 'reprogram' to as much as they want. It is under warranty and they have to fix anything they screw up.

It should only go on when the ECM detects a problem. It is NOT a "service reminder" light.
Spoke to another service person at the dealership. Got a slightly better answer.....They need to "Reprogram the ECM because the old one was incorrect."

My engine srvc light came on a few days ago.. My car started shaking and I smelled antifreeze... The shaking stoped after I drove the car, turned it off, then back on, but now I smell antifreeze whenever I accel hard.. I'm taking it in Fri to have them check it out.... I'll let you know the outcome... And also my driver side window is screeching again.. This is the third time I will have takin it in.. Hopefully they fix it right this time....
Wow!!! They fixed more then the Check Engine Light
The ECM fix seems to have fixed the "Fuel Cut" symptoms I was feeling since I've owned the car!! The driveline feels much tighter. (And yes, the Check Engine Light is now off.)
I no longer have the "on/off" feeling when driving in any gear at 2,000 rpm or less, even at highway speeds. The car is now an absolute pleasure to drive.

Re: Wow!!! They fixed more then the Check Engine Light
The problem has not moved, it has disappeared!!!!
Used to feel the fuel cutoff (on/off sensation) in stop-and-go traffic and when cruising in any gear at-or-below 2,000 rpm (even doing 50mph on a highway in 5th gear). Also felt I had to be VERY deliberate when shifting to make the shifts smooth. (Never had to do that on any of the 6 other 5 spd cars I've previously owned.)
The car is now a TOTAL joy to drive.

Idiot Engine Service Light
I was driving on the highway to pick up my $300 tax refund, and all of a sudden the stupid light comes on. i tried turning the fuel cap, and i'm gonna try disconnecting the battery, but if that won't help, should i go to the dealer with the fuel-cut problem, since i have some mods on the car, or will they reset the computer with no problem.
Man...my light came back again as I drove into work this afternoon. This is the 3rd time. Unplugging the battery just isn't cutting it anymore. I even swapped my OSCAI back to stock just to see if it will make a diff. Guess not, but the light did stay off for over a month since the swap. I'm almost due for a free oil change so I'll have them check the ECU along with my warped rotors (again). She's no longer a teenager...20,001 miles today.
Check Engine light
Hi guys, seems that most of you on this thread have 5 spd, I have an auto but hopefully it's the same sympton that applies to u guys as well.
The infiniti tech told me about the check engine light while upgrading my TCM this past wknd. he said original ecu has a bug (huh???) which affected the fuel sensor. It made the sensor a bit too sensitive (ex: it'll think the car is runnin too rich when it's actually within the normal range) and thus sets off the check engine light, though it doesn't show any real effect and the car should still drive just fine.
He also said it's a known problem for I30. Mine came on 2 months ago and was reprogrammed as well. This might be what many of u guys are getting. Just thought i should share this info

Just got mine srvc last friday... They couldn't find out why the srvc engine light came on, nor did the computer record it.. He said the next time it comes on bring the car straight to them.. I hope it doesn't come on again.. They did replace my CD player and fix my sqeaking driver and rear passenger windows, so I'm kool now....

My CD skips also, how did they replace yours? i would wanna do the 6cd indash changer, would they do that?
I recently went through a Check Engine Light (CEL) problem also on my y2k. At 36,500 miles (figures huh) the engine started to intermittenly misfire (really hard to notice...). It went away after a few minutes. A few days later it happened again and this time the CEL came on. After a day in the dealer they reprogrammed it and also "tightened a connector" (don't worry...I'm not an idiot...I knew the light would be back). The next day the CEL was on again. After two days they figured out that it was defective coils (apparently a batch of them are out there) which cause misfiring in one or more cylinders and the CEL to come on. I only had problems on warm-starts in humid/rainy weather.
Hope this helps!

Since i disconnected the batter the SES light was not on, they didn't do anything with that, but they cut my rotors and said it was first and last time, but didn't wanna reprogram my computer for the throttle sensitivity.
