See the two things sticking up above the valve cover? The one to the left of the oil filler cap and the one to the left of that one? What are they for? Oh, and how do you take off the valve cover to paint it?

Are you talking about the two screw holes? On the I30 and the 20th Anniversay Edition they are used to mount the engine cover. They don't really serve a purpose for our vehicle. Appears to be a product of mass production and parts sharing.
