Hi gang,

I've been wanting to wash the grease and crud that has been accumulating around my engine.

So far I know I should be careful of electrical parts and was thinking I should cover them -- which areas in particular should I watch out for?? What degreaser should I use?? Should I hose or pressure spray??

Can anyone offer any tips?? I wasnt able to find any info in the sticky's.

Thanks!

I use Castrol Supercleaner.
It just eats any dirt and grime, but doesn't harm electronics(as long as they are covered).
But, be careful, it will irritate your hands too.

Get an environmentally safe cleaner. The kinds in the spray cans tend to be polluting and have warnings suggesting that the wastewater needs to be collected and disposed of properly.

I used Simple Green cleaner. First, warm up the engine (product recommends a warm engine which helps to break up the grease). Then I covered the battery, intake, and alternator, and hosed down the engine. Then I sprayed on the cleaner and let it sit for an hour, then I hosed off the engine again. Result...sparkling clean engine. Very easy, and no problems starting the engine at all.

As I was driving around, a lot of steam came out from under the hood, but that was no problem. It was actually kind of neat...I thought so that is what it looks like if the engine is overheating hehehe...
