Supposedly an exhaust tweak.

Or an exhaust leak.

5hp is not enough to even count IMO.

Marketing.

I would like to see what the part numbers are for the complete exhaust system between a 2000/2001 vs an AE.

Need for "bragging rights" vs the "standard SE". My SOTP gauge certainly doesn't have good enough resolution to tell the difference.

Isn't the 3.0 Infiniti engine also 227 HP?

B.S.

I heard Nissan claimed it was the exhaust tips pointing down. If that weren’t a total load by itself, help me understand this:

2k Max = 222 HP. FED Spec.

All 2K1 = Cali spec, extra pre-cat, therefore LESS THAN 222 HP. So how could the AE possibly have 227 HP?

Technically, I think people could completely bust Nissan for misleading advertising.

But the only thing that would happen is the FTC would say "Stop it." And, since 2K1 advertising is over, Nissan would say "Sorry. We’ll stop."

Extra 5hp

The AE has the Infinity I30 exhaust, i'm not sure if it's just the muffler that gives the extra 5hp.

5 hp.....Who Cares ?

I think the whole 227 hp deal was just an advertising gimmick. I bought the AE because it had the Chrome Sill's and the Aero Package factory installed.

It's been mentioned here before that the pipes on the I30 mufflers tip downward (as opposed to straight out on all Maximas EXCEPT the anniv. edition which are downward also), allowing more exhaust backpressure and thus a few extra ponies when the extra flap opens up.

In theory, that's accurate, but in reality it is most likely a marketing gimmick to make the I30 appear more upscale from the Max.....it's probably a marginal gain, but it's not really a factor.

you've seen the bent down exhaust tips? that's suppose to help better flow of exhaust out of the car for little bit of more top-end...

and people criticize me for not completely buying the 260horsepower and 240lbs/ft of torque on the 2002s...
