How to clean my dirty engine..
#1
My engine is a dusty dirty mess. I tried going over it with california duster, but it did not work well. How do you guys clean your engine??
It is not greasy, just dirty/dusty. Can I spray water on it with a hose or will that ruin a sensor?
Thanks

....My brother used to spray simple green on his engine then spray it off..... I've never tried it.. but at the very least if you're going to spray you're engine, cover all the electronics you can ....
I don't think he did and he managed not to destroy his car.........
Compressed air would be significantly safer if it's just dusty....

I would probably look at the "how to" section to find out but how I do it is when the engine is slightly warm, NOT HOT and not cool, I use engine degreaser (any brand usually works pretty good)take some grocery plastic bags and cover your alternator and alarm siren (if you have one), and any other wires that are NOT insulated and spray on the degreaser, take a small brush to loosen any dirt that is hard to get off. Hose it off with the water coming out at a slow/medium level and then hose off. Very important!! Cover the outside of the engine with some towels so degreaser does not get all over the paint. Good luck.

Drive around to warm up the engine. Turn off the car, cover the intake, battery, and alternator with plastic bags. Spray engine degreaser (environmentally safe preferred) all over the place. Let it soak in and break up the grease. Hose down the engine.
