Exactly where is the cross-member brace and what is the issue with it?

the brace is right behind the main cat. It is secured with four bolts on each side. A few people have said they don't have it, while several have said that they do....

I have cali spec emissions and I have the brace. Everyone that I have seen that has the brace is either a 2k1 model (all cali spec) or 2k model with cali spec emissions.

i got a 2k fed spec...
i have the brace...
i think it's purpose is to hold the exhaust up in the event that it falls off, rather than just letting it drop to the ground...
i fit 3" over it...so i dont see it as a problem...

what is the "issue" anyway?

I have a 2000 GXE auto fed spec and I don't have the brace.

He is trying to see if there is a pattern to why some of these cars have a brace and why other's don't. It was suggested that this was one of those "forgot to put ons" like the 2k1 fuel filler.

Ya you can see the eight bolts there but no brace. You can see that in the pics on my website. just click on the homepage link on the side. it is on page three. The interesting thing, is that there is a white "X" there where the brace should be. Why? Don't know.

Is yours Cali-Spec? Looks like you have cali-spec cars and you should have it...btw, I went to the dealer on Sat and looked under a lot of 2k-2k1 maximas, all of them had that brace I am going back tomorrow to see what they will say..

Have you tried going back to the dealers?

Mine was manufact 5/00. and it is fed spec.

As for going back to the dealer ... Nah, don't care that much and my car hasn't fallen apart yet! Plan on selling it in December for a 02 6 speed w/ LSD, so only have 4-5 months to go assuming Nissan keeps their word on release dates.

Some update, finally know what the hell is going on with the underbody brace, actually it's called "STAY" under nissan's terminology. And ONly California emission cars have it(for whatever reasons it's unknown), when looking up in the dealer's computer, it says (CAL) for that part number.

So I guess only california guys get to have that piece, otherwise it's around $37 to buy it.

One interesting thing is, since it's called STAY, does that mean it's ther to hold up something?--also does it translate to Cali spec cars weight more than Fed spec cars!!!

So any 2k Fed emissiong guys who have the brace, something is wrong...4DSC?????how come you have it?

well, I think that implies that the brace is there for support in case the exhaust hangers fall apart or the exhaust pipes actually break. So, I wouldn't worry about it if you don't have it.
