How much sportier is the SE with its sports suspension?

I mean what you you gettin' with SE that makes it that much better, other than the cosmetic upgrades?

Could one just buy the rims, suspension, and rear taillights?

To get a truly sporty suspension, you should go aftermarket. The rims can be had from someone selling theirs. The dealer charges a ridiculous $500 per rim or so for the 17's. The tails can be had for I think around $100 per side. So, you could get a GXE or GLE and get all the stuff to make it like the SE.

Nauman, what are you doing up this early?

I test drove all 3 and really could tell very little difference between suspensions myself. The SE is a bit more loaded out than the GXE, but to some that's just extra weight you don't really need. I do like the tails and badging though, and I personally think a Max looks incomplete without a spoiler, but like UMD said, you can get all the asthetic stuff and the FSTB & RSB for less, and come out with a better handling car, and still a wee bit lighter. As far as the rims go, I like mine just fine (16" C&C pack.) but I'm sure there's someone with the 17's that would be willing to sell you theirs since so many people go with aftermarket rims.

The difference with the SE is with the rear suspension only. Fronts are the same across the trim line except between automatics (slightly stiffer in front to compensate for extra weight). Edmunds tested a 2000 GXE vs. 2000 SE and the GXE actually outhandled the SE in the slalom! I don't have the link, but goto Edmunds.com and do a search for Nissan Maxima. So, the difference is probably very small between SE and GXE handling.

this is so not true.

The SE comes with LSD.

Buying a LSD and installing it isn't worth the trouble than by just getting a SE.

I as well as many other SE owners do not have LSD.... I think that it is standard only in canada

lsd= trippy acid...

no, j/k lsd=limited slip differential

basically it powers wheels equally so that you don't have all the power to one wheel when it starts to spin...

LSD isn't a standard feature on SEs.
Only Canadian models come standard with LSD, and in U.S, it's an option(standard on AEs tho..)

LSD stands for Limited Slip Differencial. it evenly distribute horsepower to both drive wheel instead of one.

hmmm

So what is the traction control option that they are offering, doesn't that keeps one wheel from spinning independent of the other.

The new 2002 come with helical LSD. What is that?

But your right proablby require a lot of changes to the car to get LSD, if it did not come standard, but... My only question here lies in that if the engineers thought that the maxima needed LSD, that they would in the very least offer it as an option on the GXE.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm offers the answer to the first two questions. As for offering LSD on the GXE? It is a base model, and as such isn't offered with a few things that you can only find on the SE, SE AE or GLE. Most car manufacturers 'group' options together, and don't pt certain options in certain model ranges.
