Well, today I decided to start polishing my valve cover and timing chain cover. At the moment I am working on the parts I can actually get too without removign hoses, wires, etc. This weekend I will start to remove stuff out of the way since I do not have to leave for work those days . Anyways, I used a 120 grit sand wheel to start with to help speed the process up of getting the hard core junk off the top and sides. Next I used some 400 grit wet/sand paper and started sanding that down. I am now on 600 grit. That was a short burst of 600 grit that I just did and a little polishing right now. I will do more 600 grit and go up to 800-1200 grit eventually. I need to go pickup some more sand paper though . Anyways. Just showing you how its going. Also I won't be doing it day after day, some days I might skip! It's hot here, 95-105 degrees, so it isn't fun!

Here are some pics so far...

we'll polish together!

That is comming along nicely Russ. I started mine a month ago but ran out of patience. If yours turns out well I think I will have my motivation back. Are you using a dremel or air tools?

Keep up the good work....but only on the cooler days.

Thats only 15 or so minutes worth of work so far. I am doing it by hand except for that circular sander I had for the top. I have a dremel, but a dremel will take forever and its uneven. I will only use it for the tight sections.

Hey Russ I got a question for you...I see that you have a cone intake filter...do you have a bracket like the Stillen or the JWT does to support it? I need some kind of bracket to hold mine up and I was wondering what you did. Thanks!

I don't have a bracket right now, I just used some wire to tie it to my strut tower so it doesn't move around.

Yes I do have a generic cone.. lol

this has to be the cheapest MOD around

Hey Russ, what do you about the Residue? the little metal sandings? Can they do harm to the engine by just being all over the place?
Anyway, that's a cool MOD, but i doubt i would have patience for it.
Once your done sanding your gonna put a clearcoat or something?

Here is another way...

this is another way u can tight your intake down.. go to home depot and get a 1" wide aluminum bar.. its like 2bucks.. when u get it cut it 9" long, and drill a hole on each side.. and it will look like this.. the second bar is up to u..

Well, I don't even see the little metal pieces thats how small they are. I wet sound the valve cover, so they are mixed in with the water. As long as your not near any electrical connections it should not affect it. I plan to wash the engine after the final work then polish it.

HMMMM

In the second pic it looks like you have a bullet hole in your intake runner. Is that a hole or is it just me?

The valve covers look good. How about taking off the intake urrner and getting it sandblasted and chromed? I saw a 4th gen like that...it looked sweet!

Very nice...

You must be bored though...

Did you take the radiator clamps off to paint them? Just noticed they were red as well...

That is a hole. I have no idea why though, on the 2001s they have that.
