navigation system
Is it possible to add a nav system to my max. They prolly will have to redo the whole face and change everything, so how much would it cost me? and will it also be able to have a built in radio or something? Please post ur comments and opnions.
the best navi so far that i've tested is the alpine nve-n851A (dvd rom) you dont' hafta get a new head unit, if you don't want, you can just get an auxilary monitor and run external speakers. or you can get the iva-c800, cva-1006, or the more affordable and imo better looking cva-1003. the cva-1005 the one i have is no more.. replaced by the cva-1006 wich is almost identical, just some fancy spectrum analyzer display added to the brain.. retail for navi is 2000, head unit from good guys is 999.99 as oppossed to it's list 1,300. and cd changer would be required.. i'm not sure how much though, i forgot. maybe 200 bux or so. for the twelve disk.
another alternative is the new kenwood dvd rom navigation, i've never tested it out, but it looks quite promising.

the alpine nva851 is good. the detail is pretty weak if you aren't in a major city, but it's a good system.

But I do love my new setup.
The dvd is marginally better than the cd-rom, mostly just faster.
Re: 222
Hehehehe.................. I have the dvd now. I used to have the cd rom version but it was toooooooooooo slow. I got it off of ebay for 415.00 NIB.

Well I ripped out the computer, so now my navigation is a $9 road atlas.

I've navagated via GPS for some 20-25K miles when I do my road trips. Screen shot from an old laptop, and old version of the software here (from 1997, and the pics's 96K...):

If you already have the laptop, you can get the GPS and software for $150:
http://www.delorme.com/user/emate_sa9.asp
That'll give you street level detail of the *entire* US. The cd-rom is updated yearly with new info and streets, and will do door-to-door routing.
I *never* get lost anymore. (Okay, I never get lost for more than a couple of miles, anyway. The software will even tell you if you stray offcourse...)
I've got no vested interest in Delorme, but have been using their stuff for at least 10 years...
