I think I need new brakes and was wondering if they are any peroformance brakes out there for the 2000 maxima. Any recommendations, price, where to find brake intallation intructions, websites, please feel free to avise. I am looking for some good brakes that aren't very expensive if possible. Thanks guys. Take care.

Brake pads: Porterfield R4S... they're excellent, but dust a bit. Mention MaximaDriver.com and you get a discount (see www.maximadriver.com for more details).

The SS brake lines help out alot..

I recently put on the SS brake lines and Motul600 fluid..
its a nice comparison between the two.. almost no brake fade under consistent heavy braking...

I'm actually pretty happy with the performance of the stock pads and discs.. they do a good job of stopping me quickly..

I will eventually thow on some slotted discs.. and better pads.. but I'm in no hurry..

Stick with the green stuff instead. The red pads are for "track" driving.

Also,

Stick with the green stuff if you want to replace your pads every 8 months or so, don't mind a ton of dusting, and support a company who advertises "no dust, low wear".

Personally, I despise liars. Get the Porterfields.

The Porterfield info can be found on Cheston's site under the group deals (<- I think it is) section. It is a link over on the right-hand side.

Info on brakes

My 4th Gen Maintenance sticky linked below has all the details on brake part numbers and where to get them:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=45742

The rotors DO NOT APPLY as the 5th gen ones are thicker. Kev is welcome to copy whatever pertinent information over, or I can copy the thread over and he can edit it as he so desires.

Many of the items in this maintenance thread are the same for 5th gens.

Personally, I prefer Axxis Metal Masters as I despise brake dust and don't have the time to wash my car every few days. However, the Porterfields are easier on the rotors at the expense of more dust. From what I've gathered, they brake a little better than the Metal Masters, particularly when cold.

Props to Cheston for giving us the discount on Porterfield Pads AND their Brembo rotors......

I currently have the Porterfields on and they brake really well. They make the wheels look gunmetal after a while.

Feel free to copy the sticky over Bill. I'll make appropriate edits where necessary. Thanks!

Thanks from me as well Bill. Excellent writeup by the way, very impressed and very helpful. Thanks to all the members for there replys and opinions. I take it that Porterfields would be ideal if i get cross drilled or slotted rotors so maybe when i decide to get them I should seriously consider teh extra money for porterfields.
