Went to the Track last night
#1
I went to Route 66 raceway last night. My times were kind of slow with the mods i have. I had Briguymax try his hand at it and he ran within .01 of my best time. During the runs something weird was happening to my car. It would hit the rev limiter at around 6200 in first, so I couldnt take full advantage of that gear. Is this in anyway related to the fuel cut issue. If it is i plan on getting it fixed asap hopefully by the TSB. Both of our 60' times were kinda disappointing also. The best we managed out of 8 runs was 2.296(Brian). I thought that one of us would be able to run a 14.9-15.0. Below are the summary of the two best runs
Briguymax ME
60'...... 2.331 2.399
330...... 6.450 6.546
1/8...... 9.883 9.955
MPH...... 70.72 72.01
1000..... 12.865 12.898
1/4...... 15.373 15.383
MPH...... 90.06 90.80
This was my first time ever at the track. Take a look at the results and give me some advise.

Yea....the car didn't seem like it was running like it should. There was definitely something wrong with the rev limiter. It also seemed like the clutch was too hot by the time that I started driving it. It took FOREVER to grab after a shift. I had this same problem with my car, and my ACT clutch solved it easily. I can't explain the 60' times. I was launching just like I lauch my car, and getting good launchs at that. It's probably because we only let a little bit of air out of the front tires (we didn't have a tire pressure gauge)
My car didn't run last night as it is sitting on ramps in my garage waiting for a busted y-pipe to come back from Cattman.

here are my times
Took the Maxima to the track for the first time 8/11/01. My Mustang Club had rented the track for 4 hours. I was able to run 8 times in the first 1.5 hours, but quit because I was so frustrated. Every time I raced, they set me up agaist an 11-12 second car. I couldn't hear my engine or tell if my tires where spinning. It sucked. I could have ran 15 more times if I wanted to. I ran the car immediately after driving 50 miles to the track. I did not let it cool down.
Here is my best run:
r/t .546
60 2.396
330 6.57
1/8 9.978/71.9mph
1000 12.91
1/4 15.37 / 93.42 mph.
The mph seems good, but I am very disapointed in the times. My 60ft sucks. I can't drive for ****. I was really hoping for 14.9's. It was supposed to be in the low 70's, but the cold front did not come through. It was probably close to 90 when I was racing, and the track is at 700ft above sea level.
I never powershifted and tried leaving the line at 3000 rpms. I spun badly on every launch, or bogged terrible. I wish this thing had some better low end torque, it would make it much easier to pull out.
Just for comparison's sake, I had the g-tech hooked up while I did my runs. On this particular run, it recorded:
14.9 @ 99.1 mph.
It was consistently off by this same amount.

The trap speeds do seem to be off by a few mph. Larry's s 94+mph traps are on the high end of the curve where as 90mph are on the low end of the curve. 92-93mph trap speeds at a decent track with a slightly modded 5 speed 5th gen seem fairly typical. However, I've seen 2mph swings in trap speed between runs of nearly the same et on back to back runs. The VQ is a bit strange sometimes.
Launching seems to be the biggest problem for everyone. The 5th gen is probably even harder to launch than the 4th gen simply because the 5th gen makes the same amount of torque to the wheels, but weighs 150+lbs more. I use to launch at 2500 rpms and would always get spin or bog. i was stuck in the 2.3 60' range. Then I got wise and actually increased my launch rpm (4000+rpms) and slipped the clutch just enough. This netted ~2.25 60' and 14.7-14.8 ets at 1000' above sea level. The trick is you need stay above 3500rpms as you come off the line. If you drop, then you'll spin or bog. The slight delay costs you big time on the far end.

Guys he ran the same exact trap and 1/4 and 60ft as I did with my 2001. I dynoed 184 hp and 193 tq as well, so I have no idea.

not an expert but a lot of weather fronts have been moving thru the midwest. if i'm not mistaking i think a high front moved thru on tues. (high barometric pressure = less O2)
how were the other cars running?

Average stock 99+ Mustang GT times were VERY high 14s
Z28s and T/As were also running pretty bad. like very high 13s to low 14s
I don't have any import times...cuz there were none there!!!

My automatic runs 89 and change. 90 is the lowest I've seen for a 5 speed. It's usually up to 93-95.
