A while ago I made my own intake system for my max. Took out everything that didn't need to be there. It worked great for a while until i decided it needed to be better. I went over to the local rice shop and made one up with the owner. Now I am having problems. I keep getting a check engine light and a MAF code from the PCM. When the light goes on the car goes into fail safe mode, and I can't rev the car over 2,400 rpm until I shut off the engine and restart. I am curious if anybody else has had this problem. I am trying to decide if I might have hooked a vaccuum line up wrong or something else. My dealer said that it's the K&N air filter. I can see where the filter would have been too close to the MAF and caused some of the oil to get up into the filaments of the MAF. I know though that stillen sells the Oiled Filter kits and I don't think stillen has these problems.

Anybody else out there with this prob?

cya,
Ryan

Took out everything that did'nt need to be there. maybe the problem. there are smog sensors on the intake and MAF, that, if are not reinstalled properly will cause an ECU issue. Not sure what type of intake you installed, but if your sure it was installed correctly you may want reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery overnight, the hook back up in the morning and see what happens. You may want to check the FAQ threads for further insight.

Re: Check engine light

Check airflow direction through and position of MAF.
Check for obstruction in air flow from MAF to TB.
Leaks can also trigger check engine lights.
Just some suggestions.

Re: Re: Check engine light

I keep going to work and erasing the code. A couple of people at work were saying that it takes some time for the computer to adjust to the new induction system. My light hasn't gone on for about 3 weeks now. I did replace the breather line into the valve cover with a straight k&n breather. I was wondering if that line actually needs vaccuum in order to get proper balancing and readings.
