Dealers are advertising $8200 off 2001 Maximas in the paper, and there are way too many to sell© If you cut the bull out of the ad, you probably remove $1500 worth of discount you can't get ¥college grad, loyalty rebate, etc©€, but that's still $6700 off list© Maximas simply have no resale value whatsoever, going back to the early 90's© The opposite would be BMW, where you can still get the old body style 1998 M3 for 27-28 grand, and a newer 3 with 30,000 miles goes for over 30 grand© But if you're gonna keep the Nissan a minimum of 5-6 years, I suppose 6700 off is a so-so deal© You're still talking over 22 grand which is a bit steep for a fully-loaded Maxima--I mean the car still loses 10 grand in value, even when you get it for 6700 off, in a matter of 3 years--crazy© I think the new Altima would suffer the same fate, making buying it for what they're asking today simply insane IMHO©

The point is that that Nissan is doing some stupid crap. Why are they trying to screw us? Why do you guys think the Camry and Accord are much more practical buys? Do you think the 2001 Camry is going with $5000 rebates? Heck no. A 96 Civic is worth more than my Max. I'd also have an easier time selling a Civic too. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the $1500 rebate on the 4Runner, which has been around since 96(this body style). People buy cars for many reasons, one of those being resale value. I like plenty of American cars, but due to the terrible resale value I don't wanna get stuck with it for 5+ years. It is my right to drive a new car into the ground and trade it within 3-4 years, without losing my butt in depreciation.

I love the new Altima/Maxima, but I'm a poor bastard. Resale value is as important as horsepower, safety and suspension. I bought this Maxima new in 95, and have since been through a Mazda pickup, Accord, and GSR. Why do I still have the Max? Because I just can't stand losing that much money on a trade or private sale.

Oh well, just a little venting...Sorry.

Not to be an ****... but not everyone cares about resale value. I traded in my Altima to get my Maxima, and the guy asked/told me "We can offer you 1700 for your car" and I said "yah.. okay. sure."

When it comes down to it, I feel that once I drive the car all that I want, if I sell it and make money off of it, that's great. Otherwise, I don't care because I've gotten all that I want from it.
