Hit 153 last night

Went out last night with one of my friends determined to get my car above 150. Well, i did. It took about 25 seconds but it slowly crept to 153 MPH (indicated). I am running the stock 225/50 potenza's and i know those make the spedo exactly right, but i also know that at those speeds the spedo isn't exactly accurate. I get my jet chip back on saturday, so i am hoping those 15+ hp wil help too. Drive safe guys

Well…

I Hope you were on a closed-in Track. Here in Georgia we have an agressive driving law passed on July 1st. Any slight speeding or lane change not normal an you get the back seat of the troopers car. I haven't been close to 100mph since then.
But hey, don't let me stop you from gettin' your groove on…speed safely my friend.

Not to flame, but these numbers are according to Car and Driver

2000 Max 0-140 in 47 seconds

0-150 in 25 seconds will put you into the following company:

97 Viper 0 -150 in 22 seconds - 450 HP
98 Vette 0 -150 in 30 seconds - 345 HP

I know our cars are fast, but not quite that quick!

Eh I petered out at 140 on the George Bush Tollway here in dallas. There's a huge sweeper passing marsh that if you hit at anything over 100 it'll scare the **** out of you. I woulda kept going but there's usualy a cop around preston and the first toll stop was about a mile and a half away.

I usually do stupid things on the way home from my girlfriends house.

By the way ...... what was your tach reading? 140 is a hair under 6000 in fifth.... there's not a ton of room left.

Um since when is that stupid... ...

(Actually I can think of a lot of ways that could be stupid.)

I think the speed has something to do with some hormonal buildup thing .... that oh nevermind..... I'm just trying to figure out what to tell the cop if I ever get pulled over.

(Um officer I just ya know..... got some... and decided I should go really fast to celebrate my manhood..... That'll be fine son.)

Thank god my girlfriend doesn't know about .... "The Org"

At those speeds your speedo will probably be off by a good 5-10mph. You'd probably get a more accurate speed measurement by using the tach and whatever gear you were in.

Manufacturers purposely set the speedometers to be a little bit "slow" (read faster than you're actually going) to avoid some liability issues, and the faster you go, the more the speedo will be off by. I hit about 122mph indicated at redline in 3rd in my Accord V6 on stock wheels/tires but 3rd redlines at 116mph for us so it was already 6 mph or so (don't know for sure, was paying attention to the road ) so you could figure on something similar for your Maxima.

I think he meant that it took him 25 seconds to get up there from whatever highway speed he started at (70-80 maybe??) and not from a dead stop. If he got to 150 in 25sec from a dead stop then yeah he would need a fricken serious amount of power

It took me 25 seconds to get from 90 to 153. Sorry i didn't specify. I wish my car could go from 0-150 in 25 seconds. Thanks for the inquiry man.

LOL - "any slight speeding." They sure are tough up there in Georgia.

By the way, know why the Mississippi River flows north? . . .

Georgia sucks.

Neither GA nor FL have anything to do with the Mississippi River...

Try SH 161 that runs from Irving to Las Colinas. It's long enough to get a short 140 mph burst.

There are many 'copless roads', you just have to know where to find them. Problem is that most of them are WAY to curvy for a top speed run.

Oh Yea!!, We still speed…don't get me wrong. the Troopers can't pull but maybe two cars at a time. That leaves the rest of us to Hall A#*… you no what I mean VERN!!

Now about that Georgia Sucks part. The only thing you want that sucks out of here is a Georgia Peach…no, not the fruit! (Get it)

Re: Re: Re: Well…

There is a road in north florida where it leads onto a very long bridge, and there are never any cops... I have gone like 120 and then I shut it down when I get to the bridge..

What could you possible say to the cop if you get pulled over?? Uhhh, sorry officer I just wanted to see how fast my car could go, the manufacturer said 116, but I was at 120... I was just TRYING something, that's okay right?? Then the click of the handcuffs and no more max for me!!

BTW: Congrats man, that is REALLY REALLY REALLY fast.

Tach was about 6250. I read 5th gear can go 165 at 6600. Maybe after the supercharger the can might be able to go that fast.

at 153mph, cops aren't even going to try to catch you...by the time they see you pass by, it's all overs..unless they call for the choppers...

fastest i've ever hit in my car was 145mph(before my GReddy, pulley, fuel pressure regulators...) when i was going to Las Vegas from Orange County...it was around 4:00 in the morning and no traffic....miles of straight-away until that one turn...

and, yeah...drive safe... heheh

I used to live in San Antonio, and I think Route 35 was a good road for 100mph+ speeds. H***, EVERYBODY on 35 drove faster than 100mph! Route 281 was good, as well as many other roads in Hill Country that were straight as an arrow for miles.

You guys that have gone 130,140 and 150 in your Max's ,do you have suspension mods? Everytime I try to go for a top speed run in my Max by the time I hit 100-120 the car seems to be floating making me feel very unsafe causing me to slow down.
Back in 98 I went 155 in my 3000gt vr4 and it felt really stable unlike my Max. Last year while on a test drive in a 99 GS400 I hit 145.

My max felt fine at 153, no vibrations, no floating, not even any swaying from the wind. The stretch of road i did it on is smooth as glass though. I am looking forward to seeing how it handles at speed when i get my RSTB and RSB, and even more so when i get my shocks and springs.

Maybe you can answer this for me. I asked this in another post, but have yet to see an answer. I have a 2000 SE ATX and my wife has a 2002 SE ATX. I thought I got my 2000 over 135 going down hill once, but can't remember if I was seeing things...I do remember it took a long time to get there. As for my wife's 2002, it rocks right up to 130, but won't go any faster than 133 or so...so my question is:

How is everyone doing over 140...never mind 150+...is it a chip I don't know about?

PS. Had a 160 MPH Speedo put in my 87 Mustang GT (Dynos 298 to the RWs) and I have buried that twice...nice and smooth and very cool how the dotted lines on the highway become one big solid line...be very careful and aware at those speeds though. Looking forward to the mystery being solved...

Montana slapped the speed limits back on about 3 years ago The locals were sick of us Canucks making high speed runs back to the border from Vegas

My jet chip was tailored to my car, 5 speed, intake, y-pipe and catback. It maps the fuel differently. That's why my car smells like gasoline when i start it cause the injectors are pumping so much gas to make up the more air entering and exiting. Not sure it's worth the 400 bucks i spent on it, but i was happy with it.
