Does your auto hit redline?

Does your auto hit redline?
I have an auto 2000 SE auto. When I punch the trottle from a stop and go through all of the gears (WOT the whole way) my car never hit redline. Is this normal? It only gets to about 6000RPM, but never the 6500 RPM redline. Do I need some sort of software upgrade?

It's okay to hit red line, but going past it is as very big no no. It's like sprinting (ie running). You can go for quick bursts, but try sprinting for a mile and you'd fall over. Same goes for your engine, sprint up to redline for a breif moment, that's fine. But keep your car near redline, or mash the trottle every chance you get, big no no.

So do your auto's don't hit redline (6,200 or 6500, if forget) either? It's not my car. I know that other people shift manually when they race but it shouldn't be like that. My friends with auto bimmers hit redline at 1, 2, and 3rd gears. They also have 5 speed autos as well, we have 4 speeds. Maybe their shorter gearing has some bearing on this.

I seriously considered buying a Maxima, but at the time I had the choice of a fuel-cutting 5-spd or a short-shifting auto - neither of which made me happy. I ended up getting an Accord V6, but there were other issues that kept me away from Nissan too. Too bad, I've always loved Maxima's, (or Minima's as they're called here commonly )
I think this is false advertising on Nissan's part and possible grounds for a lawsuit. Horsepower peak in the VQ30DE is right at 6500rpm, but if the tranny programming doesn't let you ever go past 6000rpm then Nissan shouldn't be allowed to quote the peak power at 6500rpm, but rather only 6000rpm, which would be something less than 222HP. But you can manually shift though to get to 6500rpm, but that's just a pain.
My Accord V6 shifts right at the 6300rpm redline.

auto's are designed to avoid getting into the redline...you can make your engine to run pretty close to the redline, but it's not gonna happen..if you tried shifting mannually, the tranny will shift up automatically(even if you are trying to shift mannually) to avoid hitting the redline..

I don't recommend reving the car to redline without a load on the motor!!!!!

same here.... the rev limiter cuts off fuel just a hair past redline....

He he he, I got A Canadian SE 20th auto with steroid and LSD and I can easily go to redline with my auto, I already hitted the rev limiter few times, you just need to shift manually. I have to admit that my ecu had been reprogrammed twice so far, I believe my Max to be faster than before but this is based on my b*tt dyno.
