I wouldn't bet on it.

[edit]That is presuming it's still mostly stock. If you'd NOS'd it and done all sorts of crap, then you'll beat the max's[/edit]

If I had my 2002 already I'd be lining up for this one. You're delusional if you think you can take a Maxima with that thing.

a 1968 mustang with a 289 has a whopping 306 gross HP at 6000RPM and a gross 329ft.lbs of torque at 4200RPM. It weighs 2723lbs and has a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds and the 1/4 passes in 15.3 seconds at 91mph.

I think a 2002 SE 6 speed with the HLSD could take you with ease.

Whats the point of this post? Why waste time calling someones car a granniemobile? Does someone feel threated that 255hp Maxima with a 6sp will probably run 0-60 in a round 6 seconds....and give a butt load of cars an *** whooping?

Mike S.

ps-Don't reace any 5sp 2k2 altimas......they run low 6's too...

Sorry, my dumb-*** friends posted that under my name while I was on the phone with my girlfriend. They said it was all stock but didn't bother to look at the list of mods before they posted. Stereodude, the one that does 0-60 in 7.1 is the 289 hi-po, I have the regular 289 with like 200 hp and 288 torque. The 0-60 runs are more around 8 seconds. Anyways anyone who has read any of my other posts knows that I would rather have a max than my mustang anyways.

Why does a mustang with 300 + hp have a 0-60 @ 7.1?

Don't know about you guys, but I'd take a 68 convertible stang any day of the week. I think an all original one in cherry shape is probably worth close to $20,000 if not more. If it's some kind of limited edition, the price jumps to $30,000?

Mustang 289 convertible = increasing value
New maxima = severe depreciation-mobile.

The 289 hi-po was a beast.... my dad's 66GT turned high 13s stock in its day, and was in low 13s with fairly simple mods...

Then why do i always see old people driving mustangs?

well most of those cars back in that day were geared for city driving. I'll race anybody up to 145. See how long before most any car dies or hits their "woah" governor. I've done that to so many cameros and firebirds. The ones with the LT1. If they dumas didn't buy the performance suspension package, his speed is limited to 104. Easy to change with a $350 hypertech reprogrammer, but most of the punks in those cars have no idea what that is.

Tell your friends i don't know any grannies that own a maxima. Tell you the truth....around here i've never seen anybody with grey hair in a max. older or newer model. Maybe im just not looking hard enough.

That 300 hp is gross hp. In terms of today's net ratings, figure more like 240. Think of the old gross hp ratings in the same light as a couple of stickers (or grossly overstated).

60's tires did not have the grip that today's performance tires do. Most weren't radials. Many didn't even have tread belts. Almost none were speed rated.

Jeff92Se- true my car gets worth more and more every year, but the hassel of driving it, fixing it, driving it, etc is more than it's worth. Your better off with a Max. Faster, more comfortable, more reliable. The only reason I keep the mustang is because of emotional atachemnt. The next vehicle I buy is going to be a Silverado or F-150 because I need one for work. But when I can afford to get a max next year you can be sure my stang will be seeing a lot more of the garage.

cool max-don't tell anyone, it's a secret

Foglght - don't take offense or anything, but who cares about doing 140. If you can't win the the first 1/4 mile then whats the point. every new car goes fast.

Re: Re: My stang vs. 2002 Max

Whats the point of racing if you can't keep going. I mean, your already doing something that can get you thrown in jail. I'd rather take it to a road course. 1/4 mile is so quick. I like long drawn out whole course races. Thats the real test of a car.

I don't think so. I had 2 friends back then, 1 with a pumped up 289 in a Mustang GT. Headers, cam, hi rise and a 650 double pumper. Harassed my friend with a stock camaro ss396, 325 hp. Stayed even for about 50 yards, thats when the stock ss386 left him like he was standing still. He wanted to cry after that....

My dad had a 1966 Mustang 289 auto as his first car. He had a aluminum manifold, 4 barrel carb, 4:11 gear, and headers w/ duals. He ran a 14.3 on ****ty bias ply tires. With todays tires, that car would be capable of mid 13s.
