Raced a 2001 Mustang GT

I was driving down the road and I see a 2001 Mustang GT sittin' at a red light. So I pull up next to him in my dad's brand new 2001 Max SE fully loaded. He's got his Mach 460 system bumpin' and of course, I've got the Bose system up so loud, he probably heard it over his. I look over to check out his car. He's got a 5-speed and the Max is an auto. So before the light can turn green, I reach and turn the TCS and the OD off, and drop it down to 1st. The light turns green, and we both floor it. We both we're spinning our tires and mine gripped the road at about 2000RPM. He roached 'em in through second. Obviously he took off faster than I did considering he's got a V-8 under the hood. But around 60 or 70 mph, I started catchin' him. The stop light ahead of us turns green so I keep it on the floor. We both shut it down after around 80. After all, this was all happenin' in a 25mph zone. I was pretty satisfied with the race. Even though he beat me, I was surprised to see that I could keep up at higher speeds. And BTW, the Max is stock, with no mods. Just thought I'd tell you guys.

well, it sounds like the stang didn't hook up very good, so that might explain it.

but he did say he lost.

I had a 2000 GT 5speed that I traded for my maxima, and my GT ran 14.01 at 100.5 mph with a K&N and Flowmasters!

As for higher speeds, from what I here that is where the auto max has most of its problems with power. Believe me you might have stayed with him to 60 because of his excess spinning (like you said all through 2nd), but I think he let off once he started to pull on ya.

Its ok though like you said he had a V8.

A friend of mine told me that he had a V6 under the hood with a bunch of mods. Cold air induction, underdrive pulleys and dual exhaust just to name a few. But if he did have a V6, he must've put on the GT rear bumper and hood aftermarket. I didn't consider the fact that it could've been a V6, after all I just look at the body to tell the difference between a V6 and V8 Mustang. But that would explain me almost beating him. With all the mods, I think he's pushing around 230hp.

I change mine from 8+ to everytime. Funny thing about street racing is that the race is over when you get your a$$ handed to you, but in my mind, I'll push him/her til they fear my driving.
Ask anyone who was at Mini-Meet @ Roosevelt Field, and my insane autoX session around 20 Maximas.

, maybe your car would have lasted longer if you weren't always dancing around in it.
