Gas Indicator

Has anyone checked to see how many miles the Maxima can go once the fuel light goes on? I have a 2000 GLE.

gas light

when the light comes on....u got a little more than a gallon, but remember....u can drive it farther but u need a little more amount of gas to start the car than to drive it. trust me on this....ive driven to the point where i couldnt start it...it can go about..visually.....it can pass the E by about 2mm any farther and its REALLY pushing it.

Once the light goes on, you still have over 3 gallons left. I have never needed to put more than 15 gallons in even after driving the car down to 'E'

Yeah I agree with UMD. We have a 18.5 gallon tank, and I have never had to put more than 15 gallons in when the light was on. So that should give you about 60-70 miles (depending on driving style and road conditions) before you run dry.

gas gage

Thanks all! I feel a little more at ease now since I travel between Taos & Santa Fe-not a lot of stops.

A long way!!

The most I have ever had to put in my car was 15.7 gallons...and the needle was below empty...I believe in the manual (don't quote me on this as I don't have it in front of me) that you have 3 gallons left when the light will come on...in that case, you should easily be able to make it 75 miles when that light starts acting up

My max got 340 miles on 1 tank this weekend driving from Stlouis to Memphis. I averaged about 90 to 95 mph. This is pretty respectable considering the high speed.

360 for a full tank, but that's pushing it.

I think you get a bit more mileage for a 5 speed than auto.

I can get 425/tank, mostly highway driving on my 01 SE 5-spd.

You guys are making me jealous. I am lucky to get much past 200 miles before the light comes on. Most of my driving is suburban stop and go (00 SE auto).
I had wondered how much gas was left after the light going on, 3 gallons sounds good.

5spd GXE: I refuel always as soon as the light goes on, and have 4.5 gallons left in the tank...

It's wither in the owners manual or a Nissan rep told me...but once the light comes on (on level ground, because it can come on earlier if on a incline), you have about 2 gallons. That would equal about 40~50 miles depending on what fuel economy you are getting...

Thanks! I looked for it in the manual & couldn't find it anywhere!

I'm getting about 28-30 mpg on the road (doing 75-80), in town it's more like 24 mpg. Better than my 280Z !
