Need some Bigtime help for my new Y Pipe

I bought the Y pipe recently and had it installed on Wednesday. There was no sound inrease or any real noticable power increase. On Friday, I went on vacation and in stop and go traffic, my car started freaking out. The "service engine light" went on and the idle went up to 1000 rpm. The car would cut out and jerk if I tried to go faster. I stopped and revved the car and it would only go to 2500 rpm and bounce off of it as if I were doing it on the redline. After I turned the car off and back on, the car was louder and the problem was gone but the service light was gone. Is this the ECU getting used to the new pipe or do I need to take it into the shop? I am guessing that the light is still on because the car notices that the precat is missing, right?
PLEASE HELP ME!!! I DO NOT WANT TO BLOW UP MY NEW MAXIMA!!! DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM???
(BTW, the power doesn't seem that improved at all. Just louder. Should I be expecting a lot more if I got an aftermarket cat-back? I don't recommend paying $500 for a pipe to be installed for this little power for poor college kids like myself.)

Try a couple of things..>
One is resetting the ECU, disconnect the negative ternainal on the battery for two hours or try resetting the
ECU manually...see <A HREF=http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/>link to Max FAQ</A>.
The precats are for emission and that should not be a problem. The O2 sensors that are in the y-pipe are very important and if they are bad that will give the car hesitation problems. Make sure that they were reconnected. One connector is near the oil stick and has black and white wires, the other is on the passenger side near the timing chain cover.
I hope that the car's ECU just needed to be reset to take the new air reading from the new Y-pipe.

Here is what you do?
buy a big gun with a lot of bullets and start with the guy who istalled it.... J/K... Check that the wires on the O2 sensor are OK. take a multimeter and check if they are working with the car on... and make sure they are on there tight... and reset the ECU.... and if all else fails.... reinstall the factory pipe and take it to the dealer.

I think your O2 sensors aren't right. Look if U had someone else install the pipe then do this.. GO under the car from the pass side front tire. go from behind the tire and look right under the 2nd pipe that comes out of then Exaust manifold.. the 2nd 02 sensor is right there and there is hardly any room in there to take that sensor off the crimp thats on the body. The only logical way to install the O2 is to turn it Counter Clockwise 6-8 times and then put it in the hole and screw it in. what i'm thinking that who ever installed the pipe broke the wires b/c they weren't careful with it. Go look down there and report back here.

You don't disconnect the ECU, you disconnect the battery from the car.
Warning: If you reset the ECU, your key might not start the car (personally experienced this ). I'm not 100% sure, but just be careful.

So then I should disconnect the battery for about two hours right? Does the ECU correct itself after I connect the battery again? Will I pass smog with this problem? Has anyone else out there reset the ECU and had problems? Will Nissan help me out? Hey Kev, was it a huge hassle to get your key problem corrected?

I'd say disconnect your battery when you start work (reconnect it after work) or disconnect it when you get back home (reconnect it before you drive to work).
I had to pay Nissan to reprogram the keys...
