trip, drive till empty, mpg ect...

when i got my new stereo installed the trip button (along with the audio buttons) on my steering wheel stopped working,--the trip buttton changes the little digital readout by the odometer between the following: outside temperature, drive till empty, mpg, avg. speed--i bought an adapter to fix the audio controls for my new headunit--does anyone know how that trip button can be fixed?? i know the mpg, drive til empty are still reading b/c i see them when i start the car, but once it shows me each of them once it is stuck on temperature--anyone have any ideas

thanks
matt

hehe...I'm presuming that you're talking about a system that most of us 5th genners don't have...

Maybe you have the 5.5th gen that has the goodies that you're trying to describe...but quite honestly, you post was kinda hard to comprehend...

yeah it's the 2002--pretend there are two odometer readouts, but one shows mpg, drive till empty, average speed, ext... on the left side of the steering wheel (where the audio controls are) there is another button "TRIP", each time you press it, that "second odometer" switches from the temperature, mpg, ect..

for example:

it reads '77 F' press "TRIP" button now it reads '20.8 mpg'
press "TRIP" button again now it reads '347 dte' and so on and so on

now that i have my new stereo, the readout only shows the outside temperature and it won't change when i press the "TRIP" button

Does anyone know how to reactivate this button?
lots of caffine makes me make posts hard to comprehend
thanks,
matt

Hey.. I have a 2k2 too.. and had a question about the adapter you bought. I have the bose audio system and am thinking about replacing it. What kind of HU do you have and where did you buy the adapter at in order for your audio controls to work with the new HU??

The BOSE radio is connected to the steering wheel buttons, once you changed that you, lost all of your button capabilties.

That is the problem with going with a new stereo.

Cant help you there then

I thought there was NO WAY to make the audio controls work with an aftermarket stereo. Unless it is made by the company that made the radio.

the model number of the adapter is PAC SWI3
go to crutchfield.com and search using that model number--i haven't had it installed yet b/c i'm waiting on a center channel to come in but the specs say all model Nissans so i'm assuming 2002s are included and i'm hoping that once it's installed, the trip button will get reactivated

I have been quoted roughly $100 to install an adapter that will control my Eclipse 5504 HU via the stock steering wheel controls...I hope to have them installed next week and will update you then. Mine is a 2K1 Max so it should be helpful to most of us....
