dot on temp dial

There is a black dot on the temp dial and when the car reaches operating temp the needle covers the dot. I was told from a '00 this dot is not there. Anyone else notice/have this??

I have that dot also. It's very annoying. I thought it was a defect or someone accidently nicked the paint off during installation or something. Want to fill it in with some matching paint.

Yeah there is a dot on my 2k 6 temp meter gauge. It is on all that I've seen. BTW,Thanks about he answer on the AE engine cover. I lost interest when you told me it was plastic.

Yep, I've got the "dot" too, on my 06/00 SE. Didn't even notice it before, it is perfectly in line with the temp needle @ normal temp.

I've got it too.......on my 93gxe I think it should be there...not a flaw. What's everyone getting so worked up over a dot for?

It started when we speculated that the AE engine cover would keep the engine temp up, decreasing performance. I think the dot is normal operating temp. Seems like the cover does not make a difference in temp. It goes right to the dot. It is an easy way to see if your engine is overheating (needle rises above the dot)

. . . . . . . . . . . . .

It's good to have it there... it will let you know if you're overheating.

I also have the dot on my 2001 se. I noticed it the first day i got my car ( i went over the car with a magnifying glass ) I just figured it was to let you know what's operating temp. I figure it's about 190*F.
