5th Gen quality issues......

Anybody want a 2001 Max SE?

The Max really ****ed me off today. I'd like to start off by saying that this car is babied and garaged. Today I was looking over my car and I'm noticing paint chips ALL over the hood so I'm freaking out....then again I knew that the paint was crappy before I bought it, but I didn't think it would be this bad!! Then I changed the air filter to a drop-in K&N, well when I closed the hood on my other cars(4th gen) I try not to just drop it so I set it down and then pressed it to latch. WELL, the ******* hood DENTED!!!!!!!!! I didn't press hard AT ALL!! This POS is getting traded tomorrow. I already chewed out Nissan Corporate about it, and yelled at my dealer about the weak a$$ sheet aluminum body. I told him I wanted him to buy it back so I could buy another car. He told me he'd give me $24,900 (paid $26k) for it and then asked if I wanted to trade for a 2k2 and I said screw that and told him I was getting a GTP just to **** him off

Have to admit I unfortunately alot of my repect for Nissan today (the engine is still the best in my book...too bad the body sucks)

I'm going to get a POS old honda to drive until the WRX sti or the Mitsubishi EVO7 comes out around may.

It's a damn shame.....I'm truely disappointed

How old is your car? $1100 isn't bad (or is it) besides the license and tax I guess...I don't know, never resold/traded in a car before, always thought the day you pay for a car you lose like 20% automatically.

Well, I'm going to lose about $2k but I'd rather be happy than ****ed every time I look at my car. This really sucks, I wish I wouldn't have traded off my red 4th gen for this

I've had the car for about 5 weeks and have roughly 4k on it.

Dang, that does suck. I got quite a few chips on my hood too, but I guess there's nothing we can do about it? Nissanpaint.com doesn't work for me, I tried like 3 times and always get an error. So what are you going to get instead?

This is what i'm going to get.....

The new Lancer Evo 7 sports a 2.0-litre turbocharged I4 producing 276 horsepower at 6500 rpm (really closer to 300) and 282 lb-ft of torque at 3500 rpm.

Well it hasn't been finalized that they're bringing that car over. They probably (hopefully) will though

Good luck with Mitsubishi's "excellent" reliability..you'd probably be better off with a GTP.

never again...

will I own a Mits...

btw, I think your hood is made to deform. I never push on it, I drop it to lock. I think thats so it wont take your head off in a crash. I'm sure you didnt press hard, I'm just saying thats the compromise there.

I've pressed on the hood not super hard, but pretty hard and it didn't dent it. But I wish I found this forum BEFORE I bought my max, might have made me changed my mind about getting one! Probably would've gotten a 4th gen. =)

When I'm workin on a tough spot on the hood while washing my car the hood buckles some if I press hard enough. Nothing permanent though.

BlackSE,

Let us know what you eventually get. You need to be happy with your purchase when you are buying a car. I hope you find what you are looking for.

I don't get it. My 2001 Maxima - Grey Lustre - has a little over 9k miles on it, and not a single paint chip. Crazy thing is, I bought my car used, so I'll never know if there was a protective coating put on the paint, but to ensure that it stays okay, I wax it once a month. Probably doesn't help or hurt, but it makes it look good!

Dude, why step down to a 4-banger? Stick with a 6 cylinder or upgrade to an 8 cylinder car.

I don't care how much HP those force fed 4 bangers get, it's still a noisy 4-banger.

No paint chips on my hood or bumper after driving for 8 weeks. But I've only put 1500 miles on the car so far. I have applied wax to my car and I don't know if wax helps to make a difference.

paint chips?

2000 I30, 15,000 miles....only one small hood chip (2mm).

Do they paint the Infiniti differently than the Max??

Black SE, you think nissan is bad, just wait until you get your Mitsubishi! I can definitely say that Toyota is better than Honda, Honda better than Nissan, and Nissan DEFINITELY better than Mitsubishi. Good luck either way you go....

Well, there are other things to....like not enough car for the money, the max will never be as fast as most other cars for the money. Now that the quality is going down...why Nissan? I ended up doing the Mitsubishi Galant GTZ with the 0/0%/0 deal. I'm giong to pay like $6k on it and then sell it next october and buy either the WRX sti or the new evo7. I live in the city and don't need a big car anyway. I'm more in it for performance and speed.

Hey BlackSE.

Sorry to see you leave the fold. You must have bought the Galant GTZ new. How do you like it? Personally, I like the looks of that car. How much did Mitsu give you for your Max? A buddy of mine has a WRX and it is fast. The sti should be smoking fast.

Best of luck with your new Mitsu.

No offense....

If you are mad about Nissans quality...Mitsu....that is the worst interior I have ever seen! I love the outside of the Galants, but when I took one for a test drive I couldn't get over how crappy it was inside..and that is what matters most to me! The Galant had some sort of velvet poop that came all the way up to the drivers side window...it felt good on the arm while new...but that poop would look and feel like sandpaper in a year! I can't imagine the body on those cars being any stronger than the maxima. They will still get door dings and nicks and scratches just the same.

Oh well...another car for me to beat up on here in KC! WooHoo!

no need to have a cow...

my black gxe is a year old, its a 2001, and still less than 10k miles, and that thing has SOOOOOOOO many paint chips, its unbelievable. looks nice from far, but from close, just nasty. but i didn't really expect much from a black car, lighter paints are less noticible. other things wrong with my max, wind noise from rear window at high speeds, and that gas tank(where the dirt collects in the fuel area). i love the interior, nicest i've seen so far, exterior looks great, and yes, i like the back to, not ugly, different anywho, i'm just saying, this car is great, and i wouldn't sell it for a mitsubishi, i heard that those galants are slow ***, but thats just what i heard. i'm not really into racing, so if i was thinking of cars other than the maxima to replace, it would be a camry(new 2002 se looks nice), or an accord. those cars are more in the maxima class, galants aren't IMO and neither is the lancer. but you already got rid of it, so, its over, how is the gtz anyways(looks nice, just heard its slow)

BlackSE I don't know what you are looking for in the car in terms of more car for the money. I got a bare-bones GXE 5 spd for under 20 grand...you can't beat that anywhere. Most of us here agree that we bought Max for its engine. It is a 30 thousand dollar car engine in a 20-thousand dollar car...but since you're going for Galant then better get an '01 Accord EX 5 spd, model-cycle end clearance, you may get a deal under invoice. Let us know what you got for your Max adn your new ride.

As for the rest of you homies who'll hold out with your Maxes, lets figure out better ways to protect the finish. Someone came up with 3M film..which makes a lot of sense to put on a new car.
