Sterling mist or Gray Lustre

Looking for opinions on color. I may buy this weekend and my choices are 02 GLE Sterling Mist or 02 SE Gray Lustre. I own a Radium Sentra SE that is close to the Sterling and the color is really nice. My dilemma is I prefer the SE but at present they can't/I can't locate a Sterling Mist SE w/Black leather and the other goodies.

Thanks

If those are the choices, I'd go with a Grey Lustre... but I am kind of byast (why kan't eye spell this morning ). Otherwise I'd choose the blue from the anniversary edition.

When I bought my '01 AE in April, I had two choices, Grey Lustre with Black Leather and Sterling Mist with Frost Cloth. I really liked the GL, it looked mean and tough where the SM looks a little more classy. Anyway, I really didn't want leather, especially black leather in a dark car. They couldn't find a GL with cloth interior/AE/5 speed (I don't think many AE's were made with cloth), so I went with the SM. I really have grown to like the color. Sometimes it even looks like the Sunlit Sand.

The best thing about it is that when it is dirty, it is pretty hard to notice. It looks good whether it was washed yesterday or last week.

My 3rd gen. Maxima SE was silver and it was great,
didn't show the dirt much when it was dirty.

Now I have a grey luster/frost leather 2k SE. Both are kind of a pain. the light interior takes more cleaning and the dark grey lustre shows dirt almost as fast as a black car does.

So, do you like to wash your car alot or once every 2-3 weeks?

I still try to wash my car weekly...I try to wax bi-weekly to help with the paint chips.

However, I think I'm on 3 weeks right now without touching it...work is busy and I'm kind of lazy. But, from 10 feet away the car looks great. If you get up close, you can see waterspots on the hood/roof.

Too many silver cars on the road, I'd go with grey lustre.

yep Ludacris is right...there way too much Sterling Mist on the road..probably because it doesn't look dirty when it is and its just a standard color. I would wait for the SE, or just get a Gray lustre but if you are a person that doesn't care about people having the same color of car as you do....then get the sterling mist cuz its better

If you're considering grey lustre, might as well go all the way and get superblack...that is if you plan to wash it each week and garage it. Otherwise, go w/Sterling Mist b/c it looks good even when dirty.

I've noticed that sometimes SM does look real close to Sunlit Sand. It depends on how the light reflects on the SM. It is a really cool looking color. It stands out from all of the other white and silver colors on the road.

It's very easy to keep clean and looks great waxed also.

Grey Lustre all the way
Although Sterling mist does "look" clean when dirty. It would be my second choice.

im biased too

i have sterling mist and i loved it from the start, i had choice between the sterling mist, the white, gray lustre, or sherwood green, and even when dirty the sterling mist paint stood out and still shined. the gray lustre looked like it was old and the paint didn't reflect as much, but im biased, and no matter what color you get you will love it, its a maxima. but get an SE, not the GLE if you want performance.

I try to wash it once a week unless it's nice out all the time, then more often

DIRTY----------------------->CLEAN

the SM does look clean more often, but...
once you really clean your grey lustre it looks a lot better IMHO, I washed and waxed mine (2k2 greylustre SE) today and I can't describe the feeling that a car going from so dirty to SOOOO clean gives after a job well done and i doubt you'll get that feeling from the SM because it'll just go from clean to cleaner, but either way you're gonna have a great car

Sterling Mist all the way. Yes there are too many silver cars on the road, but our cars stand out bcause our paint shades are real different from all of the other manufacturers. Definitely get the SE, I love all of my sport features( spoiler, 17's, sport suspension, color coded door handles).

...but when Grey Lustre is clean I think it's such a unique color, reminds me of a metallic black.

The grey lustre looks good. It is definitely not a common Maxima color. SM is nice, especially when it looks silver. Other times it looks gold, and I don't prefer that color.

My choices: Majestic blue, White, Black, Sterling Mist, Grey Lustre, Merlot, Green.

Colour opinion

I am having the same debate for an '02 Maxima GXE (yeah, I know the SE and GLE are "better", but they are also more expensive, so don't go there please).

The grey lustre looks better overall because it contrasts the chrome. But as another poster suggested, if that's what you want then get black.

The mist colour looks a bit drab, doesn't contrast as well with the chrome, but as everyone has noted, you don't need to wash it every couple of days.

I really wanted a light silver, which isn't offered.

All this to say, I just don't know. This might be an area where I bring my wife to the dealer and ask her for an opinion. Ain't that scary. I know what she will say -- "little boy, you won't clean the car, so get the light grey and can we go now?"

Thats true, I had the same color when I had mine 2000. But I dont seem to like how the SE Smoked lights look in the back. TOO much contrast.

KEV, ever though about maybe going 2002 on the rear? since you got sorta light colored car? Might look nicer than the smoker colored rears.

Milano,

That is one beautiful Sterling Mist Max. Looks like you have a 2001 AE body kit installed. Did you add the AE body kit yourself?

Actually, that's the Stillen Kit. I had it painted and installed by a body shop nearby.

My vote is for the grey lustre if the only choices are between that and the sterling mist. I love SM but see too many on the road. Long Island, NY is packed with that color. If you can wait it out, my vote goes to Majestic Blue, but I am bias of course, it's my color. Get a dark color and spend some time taking care of the car. I have alot of respect for a driver of a beautifully detailed black car - there's just nothing like that black mirror finish - well my Majestic Blue is close, hehe.

Hi,

I just picked up a SM 02 Maxima SE with the black leather.  The car looks much better with the leather although it does add 1.5k to the price.  It also adds the automatic a/c and memory driver's seat which are definite pluses.  I just had a Charcoal Purple (Stealth Gray Pearl) 94 Integra which I had to get re-painted after 5 years in the hot Hawaiian sun (clear coat broke down).  A little drizzle while it sat at work was enough to get the car dirty.  I got a car cover and covered it while it was at work which kept the car clean longer.  The leather, reliability, power and stable steering/suspension was what made me decide on the Maxima (my 2nd choice was the VW Passat-not enough power and lots of complaints of reliability on several boards).

A couple of add'l recommendations:  I ordered the Eagle Automotive Protection package (paint sealant, leather interior protection, undercoat, electronic rustproofing) and the extended warranty (6/75k).  Both were well used in my Acura (no rust/lots of warranty work).

IMO, Gray Luster is one of the best colors for the MAxima. I'd go with that one with the blkack interior. I like dark colors on the MAx, but Blacks get's to be annoying with the swirls so the next best thing would be the Gray Lustre.
