Is this normal? problem with locks
Is this normal? problem with locks
Hey guys, i've had my maxima for little while now but i've noticed this rather annoyance that i've never had with any car. It deals with the auto locks. Basically when i use the remote unlock/lock thing, it only unlocks my front door...is that "normal"? It doesn't unlock any other doors. Another thing is that if i unlock my doors and want to open my backdoor, the doors automatically lock up after a few seconds or when i close my driver door. This means I have to go unlock the doors again. There seems to be a sensor on the driver door to do this. Also, I can't warmup my car or turn it on and come back after 2-3 mins because the door automatically locks once you close the driver side soor?
So guys, is this normal? I've never seen it on any other car but I've just gotten used to it.

if you push the unlock button once it opens only the drivers door
push it 2 times rapidly (or a bunch of times) it opens all the doors
if you hold it for a few seconds the drivers and pass windows open (my 03 does)
the locks relocking on their own?
i couldnt get my car to do that
it might be a short or bad switch?
try this
i think this is just for the key minder (antilockout set) but its about all you can do
open one or more doors (leave it open) and put the key in the ing (dont turn it)
on the door hit the "lock" switch all the locks will lock and then unlock
idk if this will do anything but try it

i don't think the windows are suppose to go back up after you let go of the button...usually after i hold down the button for like 3 seconds or so, the front two windows roll down. as for unlocking the doors, just press the unlock twice within 2-3 seconds to unlock all doors. pressing once only unlock the front door. i believe if you unlock and not open any doors, the door will lock on its own after a certain time. i know it's longer than 2-3 minutes. last time mine locked after like 10 minutes or so.

My locks automatically lock once i leave the car so its dangerous because I don't have a spare at the momment. I can't warm it up or anything and If i need to open my passenger/back doors from the outside, I have to make sure my front door is open wide so it doesn't autolock them because there is some sensor in the front door.
What can i do to fix this?
Normal?
No. Once you roll the windows down with the remote, they should stay down and not roll back up. You can't even roll them up with the remote unless you buy an extra module to do that. Also, you should have no issues unlocking all the doors from the remote. You can try another remote, clean yours, or play with the brain itself.
What you are experiencing is definitely not normal. When you hit the unlock button twice on the remote ALL 4 doors should unlock. And I've never heard of the windows rolling back up when you let go of the unlock button. That is truly bizarre.
i looked over the manual and schematics
this is a complicated system with no obvious quick fix
the locks and windows are controlled by the "smart entrance control unit"
the drivers and passenger side switches have their own internal controller
the best thing you can do is either scan the system (active tests) or use the pinout to test the inputs and outputs of the entire system to find a faulty part
im not sure if you can monitor the locks and windows with a laptop scanner or if it only works with consult II or expensive snap on type scanners ($2000+)
autozone scanners cant

There is definately something wrong with ur locks.
you should take it to the dealship and see what they say.
in the mean time, you should get a duplicate made of ur key from walmart which will cost u like 1.5 dollars and keep it in ur wallet. I do the same. it will unlock ur door and the trunk but wont start ur car because the original key has a rfid chip in it. with this atleast u wont lock out urself.

Will do that today. Thanks
you cant reset the smart entrance control unit
make sure you dont have an aftermarket alarm system. i dont think that you do otherwise you would have a different keyfob and the window down option may not work
if you disconnect the battery youll have to reset your sunroof slider switch, if you have 1
(with sunroof closed, hold the rocker switch tilt down until system beeps. i think its hold for more than 1 second)
what you need to do is have nissan put their scan tool on it and do "data monitor" to watch the i/o's of the smart entrance unit to see if its seeing false signals from a bad component
then use "active tests" to drive the functions by software input
as far as resetting the keyfob here is the procedure:
-close all doors
-put the key in the ignition (do not turn) do this more than 6 time until the hazards flash twice
-insert key and turn to acc position
-push any button on the keyfob the hazards will flash twice
-open drivers side door (end of procedure)
then get out and test the keyfob (this only erases the security code and enters a new 1 for the remote all other diagnostics and settings are done with consult II. it may help you but it may not)
the smart entrance unit might have a bad transistor in it not blocking voltage when it should (failed closed) since its a motor controller and coil driver for the windows and locks
or a bad ground somewhere might be confusing the unit

one more thing
do the windows go up without the key in the on position or even in the tumbler??
the windows should not raise unless the car is actually on or running or it is within 45 seconds of the key switched off

If i go to my car right now and hold down the unlock button on my FOB, the windows will go down, but after i let go of the unlock button, they will go back up 3 seconds after. This is without my key in the ignition.
get it on a scan tool to find the problem
i have a similar issue...my front door panels dont work, unless the key is put in...that includes door lock switches...
idk wtfff is up wt that, and i had nooo idea the windows could b rolled down, now since the switches dont work w/o the key in the ignition....mine dont roll down
:'(. anyone from south fl know a GOOD auto electrician?
i hate electrical issues so bad
