Heated Steering Wheel out of wack??

It seems that my heated steering wheel only works for like 10 minutes and shuts off and doesn't seem to turn back on. And for some reason it only works in the mornings. At night it won't turn on, even if the light is on. Am I missing something here?

Mine shuts off after a couple minutes in the morning too.

But afterwards I noticed if I have my heater running it'll stay on. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to be. :P

Mine does some wierd stuff too. Mine always works when I first start the car, but if I try to use it when the car is already warm, it worn't come on. I think it senses when you shouldn't need it and turns itself off.

mine seems to heat up to a fairly hot temp, then cool down to an average warm temp, if not turn off completely. Maybe this is to prevent potential damage of the steering wheel? i have no idea

This should be a fun thing to fix when it quits coming on completely.

Yeah, either that or when it breaks, it stays on all the time and you're driving around in July with nice, toasty steering wheel

it is only supposed to stay on for 3-4 mins. They all do that. Only Nissan that has this feature is the Maxima. G35 doesn't have it. (considered medium infinity) not high end from infinity line up

Yeah the Maxima's have a couple of options that weren't available on the G35's. My friend has an completely loaded 03 G35 coupe and he doesn't have the heated steering wheel or the trip computer. Neither of those were available on the G35. I think they might be available on the 2006+ model years though.

I don't think so. My boss just bought a fully loaded m35x and no heated steering wheel. Lots of other cool stuff though.

The wheel shuts off after it gets hot and the heater is not on but if the heater is on and you turn on the heated steering wheel it stays on until you turn off the heater.

That would be the relay for the switch turning on and off...

Also, I timed my heated wheel after reading this post. It stays on for exactly 5 minutes then shuts off. The only way to get it to come back on is to restart the car.

System Description
NHEL0315
The heated steering system is controlled by the smart entrance control unit. The heated steering system
operates only for approximately 30 minutes after heated steering switch is turned “ON”.
Then the heated steering system is turned “OFF” when the heated steering switch is turned “ON” again or
ignition switch “OFF” within 30 minutes after heated steering system “ON”.
Power is supplied at all times

I'm glad the steering wheel heats instantly, unlike the seats that seem to take 5 minutes.

Actually, when I'm driving, once the heated steering wheel cools down, I press the button to turn it off. Then a few minutes later I turn it back on & I get heat again (but this is hit & miss b/c sometimes it doesn't heat back up again).

Have you guys ever tried using the heated wheel in summer? I've never or rarely been able to get it to work in summer...there must be a sensor or something connected to it.

As for the heated seats, I hate them! According to my front passengers, the passenger seat heats up instantly & get really hot, whereas my drivers seat takes forever to heat up & doesn't stay on for long.

My heated seat works great. Doesnt take long at all to heat up and gets nice and toasty. My steering wheel gets hot and then shuts off. But it will come back on after a few minutes. It just keeps turning on and off without touching the switch. I love it.

This is how mine is too. Seats are warm within 2 minutes and steerning wheel is warm in even less, however it turns on and off. If you guys think these heated seats suck, my dads 06 Acura MDX takes FOREVER for the seats to warm up. It's funny because the engine warms up quick and the heater turns on and makes the inside of the car warm before the seats get warm. It also does not have a heated steering wheel.

I believe its programmed to shut off at or around 90F. Mine does the same warm up then cool cycle, then shuts off after a little while. I'm sure the legal / cost issues behind a steering wheel that contains an explosive charge, being heated with an electrical current, are why it isn't seen as often
