tein coilovers opinions/pics

i got a 2001 maxima anniversary edition. im running 245 40 18 tires on stock maxima wheels. ive read alot of reviews for suspension and tried to find some reviews for the teins and cant find what i need so i figured id start a specific thread. sorry if this has been beat to death. anyways ive tried numerous set ups and still not happy so i thought this might be my last resort. ive tried maxspeeds, tien s-techs, eibachs, and h&rs all on tokico illuminas, and also k-sports. the rides just suck h&r and by far the best but not enough drop. my goal is to get a s-tech size drop eveness and stillget a good ride. i dont know what the deal is with the maxima but this has been crazy trying to find this combo. ive ridden in a evo, sti, the new m45 all with s-techs and they ride great. my cousin has the tein coilovers comfort series on his is300 and it rides awesome better than stock with great handling. so i wanted to se if anyone was running the tein ss on thier maxima and what they thought of them. my car is a daily driver and im looking mainly at a aestetic point of view.if you could post pics great. id rather spend the money and get the best. please help running out of options. thanks in advance

If you want the best comfort based coilovers for the Maxima I heard that Boss Chens are the way to go (P.M. Larriomotors for details). Also although a bit pricey you might want to check out the JIC's A2 VIP coilovers A group deal is being set up for them right now @ http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=541717
From what I have read about them they are the only coilovers I have ever heard of with progressive rate springs and dust boots and traditional rubber bump stops and mount bearings.

You did not try Progress springs?

I have them with Illuminas after I had D2's... I love Progress springs, nice drop (pretty damn even) and I find the ride to be pretty comfy.

it looks like you have 6th gen wheels... those are like 60 lb (with tires) each. i'd say that's one part of your 'ride problem'.

I've had Illuminas/Progress, Illuminas/H-techs, and Tein SS coilovers. The Teins are the best set-up hands down in every aspect (too bad my "trial" period is almost up ). The car feels much more controlled and planted, and the ride is solid, yet not jarring when I hit bumps. The handling improvement is small for your regular daily driving, but when you push it is when you really see the difference. I'd get the Teins just for the ride quality alone.

I think the issue that you're running into is suspension travel. Maximas have none, which is why coilovers are a good choice sometimes. Although, I would think that the K Sports would be decent, unless the spring rates were high and the settings stiff. Just speculating here.

I've pretty much decided on the Tein SS. I need them soon and have been looking but who has the best deal. What did people pay for the Tein SS???
Thanks for the help..

Best price I could find for Tein SS is from ImportRP's GD. What sites/vendors have you checked out so far in terms of pricing and what prices are you seeing?

Nah... KSport/D2 suck in ride quality and handling.

After I swapped to Progress/Illuminas from my old D2's, I was a MUCH more happy person.

I am convinced, KSport/D2 are only good for show. You can have them custom valved and different spring rates, but they are still a PIA to maintain and still noisy.

The best website price I've found was roadRaceMotorsports.com @ $1050. Others ranged from $1187-$13--

Whats this also mentioned about a trial period????

ImportRP was $1114 shipped.

I'm using someone else's Teins for now, but will be returning them to him shortly.

Can I ask what the basis of your comparison was in order to arrive at that conclusion?

I mean, I've only heard good things about BCs, but that's still a pretty bold statement to make.

I have them and like them....but I don't know if I'd make that statement. At least not without comparing them to the competition.

it was more of a joke, since i havent owned any of the other options or any spring/strut combo. just joking at the fact that they arent available new anymore...

anybody heard anything about the megan racing coilovers. i just happend to stumble upon them and i was just curious. they seem to be moving up in the world with their exhausts so wondering if their suspension. mabey another cheaper alternative for us. they have a 8k/6k spring rate if that helps any..

its not the spring set so much as the quality of the shocks/dampers. are these the ones from ebay by any chance?

D2 is not a "top" coilover brand...

If you want some opinions, post some specs and pictures...

Btw, one comment I had on the Tein SS is that if and when I do get a set, I'd get a slightly higher spring rate in the front. They come 7/6 F/R but I think 8/6 would be better, because it can get a little bouncy up front, even with the stiff settings.

IIRC, BCs come standard with 8/6 while D2s and KSports are something like 9/6 or 9/7, but I'll let someone else chime in. Of course, you can ask for any spring rates you like on almost all coilover brands.

WEll thanks for the late suggestion! j/k
I ordered my Tein's on Friday.. so I'll be stuck with the 7/6 rating.

Most people will be fine with 7/6. I think 7/6 is good, but I'm picky and think that 8/6 or even 8/7 would be close to perfect for my purposes/driving style and conditions.

Let us know how you like them once they are on.
