anyone with a spoiler and digi cam...Help! please.

I recently had my spoiler painted and i want to mount it, but they are qouting me too much just to install it. Try $700, $600, $300, $200. Thats way too much money just to install a spoiler. I am thinking of mounting it myself and so i went to the local dealership and asked salespeople if i could check out a couple of maximas with spoilers. One salesman poped open the trunk so I could see where the screws are for the spoiler but it had a cover and i didn't want to take it off since it was anew 2002 max. All the other maximas had no spoilers. So I am asking if any 2000-2002 owners that have a digital camera can take a few pics of there spoilers so that i can get an idea of where the spoiler aligns to and where the screws are under the trunk. i have an idea of where one goes but the other i have to clue. The spoiler I got is an exact replica of the OEM spoiler and i got it from E-bay. If anyone can help i would appreciate it. If not then oh well, i thank you anyways for reading my post and none the less i hope that i may be of some help to you today or in the future. I have a digital camera so if any on you need soem kind of pic i hope that i can help. i am hoping to get my spoiler on by Friday since that is when my vacation is over. Thanks in advance, and take care.

$700 to install a spoiler? you might as well buy & install it through the dealer!!...
One of my friends had his painted and installed for $150.. But he has extra holes and screws rolling around inside the trunk lid and the spiler seems crooked from certain angles..
Since your's is painted already, they shouldn't charge more than what my friend paid..
Those prices are just outrageous!!!

Thank You Clee130. I will see if it comes in handy. I think that I might as well do this myself. I have more confidence in myself thhan someone else doing this. i just came back from a body shop and they want to charge me 230+ for some 5hrs of work The lack of info is what is setting me back. Thanks guys. Actually Clee it will come in handy. It tells me if the holes are misplace in the spoiler I bought.

how are you sealing the mounting pillars? a buddy added a spoiler to his accord without the factory rubber spacers/moldings and he developed rust. just make sure you seal it real nice.

Thanks Serin for the advice. Yeah the spoiler came with some gaskets but i think i am going to have to use some anti rust compound around the holes if I decide to do it. The gasket have some tape strips on them and i am not sure which way they go. I wonder if the strips go againsts the spoiler or the trunk.

i would assume it goes against the trunk since it's metal and expensive? besides, isn't the spoiler some type of molded composite? or is it a metal one?

side shot may help to see how far forward to set it. This thing about not posting more than every 60 sec kinda sucks.

this is the inside driverside mount location. I only see one hole, unless you have a REALLY small wrench to fit down in here. this is with 2 rubber gromets(?sp) removed.

Yes the spoiler does look like a molded composite of sorts. I know that it is light as well.

Thanks for the pics. I appreciate it. Looks like the 2001 spoilers look a little diffrent. Then again, the spoiler I bought from e-bay is a replica of it. Your pics are definetly a BIG help. I am going to post pics to show you what my spoiler looks like. The brake light is what has me worried right now. I need that little connection piece and will probably have to go to the dealer for that. I'm a little confused now whether to fo it myself or go to the dealer. I lowest qoute i got for that was 175 to mount and install the brake light. Thanks for your pics for going thru all that trouble. I really appreciate it.

My factory wing was stolen off of my car and I replaced it with an ebay spoiler. I got a painted one and the body shop I took it to installed factory spoilers for the nissan dealer nearby. They qouted me $65 for an hour labor, and only charged me $60. The wing was a replica, so they had to drill new holes and splice the brake light into a taillight, but still just $60. You are getting ripped!

No kidding, everywhere I go they they charge up the wazzu for this. They swear it takes forever to do this. It might take me more than an hour but only because i like things perfect or close to perfect. But they are charging me for 5 hours labor 1 hour for the actual work and 4 hours for the time they spent on another persons car, their break, and talking on the phone or sitting or there butts and doing nothing. I don't know it just upsets me so much.

Menacer

I just talked to a good friend who happens to be a supervisor for GEICO's adjustor total loss division. He said in the Mitchel Book it says .5 hours for mounting the new wing. Since they have to drill holes he would pay 1 hour tops. 1 hours shop rates are only like $60.00 tops. If it needs to be painted the paint time is 1.5 hours plus materials. Paint hours are only like $38.00 an hour. Knowing this, you can go to a shop and tell them to look it up and you'll be happy to pay that rate. Basically it's $60.00 out the door if it doesnt need painting. If it does then $140.00 plus materials (170.00 tops) out the door. 99% of the shops go by the Mitchell Books, They should have no problem doing this for you if you point it out.

Merry Christmas!!

Jeff

Good looking out Jeff. Thanks for the info. All these shops here though are money hungry and don't care, at least the bodyshop I went to cause i told him that the dealership charge me slighty less and he said take it to them, they'll do it for you. Oh well. I'll do it myself. I've gotten alot of good info, so wish me luck. Thanks for all your help.
