Problem: Car Hesitant to Start

So, I just replaced my battery and my alternator and the car is still hesitant to start. Sometimes, I'll turn the key and it willl stutter, and not start. I'll wait for a second, then turn the key again, and it will stutter twice and eventually start...

It's pretty concerning now that we're getting into the 30's. Especially since I had all that stuff replaced recently.

Anyone have suggestions of what could be wrong?

Starter going bad? Take a hammer and give it a whack or two, see if it helps.

It turns over, but it sounds more like the battery doesn't have enough juice rather than the starter. Kind of inconsistent too. 175k miles btw.

Are you cranking the key all the way immediately? Try turning the ignition to the "on" position and wait for 10 seconds before trying to start the engine. Those few seconds should allow the fuel pump to pressurize and whatever other misc. systems to ready themselves.

I replaced the starter. No problems for 2weeks. The old one must have had a dead spot.
