Cleaning Underhood ("Safely")

I am looking for the best way to clean under the hood of my car?
Can anyone make any suggestions that are safe to do and won't hurt anything under the hood doing them?

What do you mean "CLEAN" the hood? You want to just wipe it down or hose it down?

Hosing it down aint really a problem except you are going to get the shield soaked. Which is not going to kill it, but it is gonna soak up some major water and will eventually "SAG" earlier than needed in its life.

Best would be to remove that hood shield or just clean it without hosing it down.

my mechanic used to steam clean our engines after he services our cars... i say that's one of the safest ways to go about it.

Will powerwashing or hosing it down clean it up? Do I need some chemical wash to spray in there.. that will cut any dirt.. oil.. or whatever build up might be there?
I heard hosing underneath the hood isn't good?? but reading posts about it.. I guess everyone does it?
I won't remove the hood shield.. but thats not what i am going to be soaking.. I will wipe underneath the hood down but won't be spraying it with water.
Someone mentioned Steam washing??? how can I do that?

I just want to make it look brand new under the hood.. any COMMENTS or SUGGESTIONS??

Thanks
