Headlight Cleaning--PLASTX-Pics inside.

This will probably be moved to detailing. I posted it here so that you can see that for nominal haze, you don't need to wet-sand.
These lights had haze on them. I purchased Meguiars's PLASTX. Used: Applicator Pad/Bug remover pad/Microfiber cloth.
Step 1: Used the MF cloth to wipe off dirt-DAMP
Step 2: Applied PLASTIX to the Applicator Pad and scrubbed hard for 5 minutes
Step 3: Applied PLASTIX to the BUG removing pad and scrubbed hard for 3 minutes
Step 4: Rinsed the BUG removing pad, applied PLASTIX scrubbed hard for 5 minutes
Step 5: Wiped down with a clean MFC.

Please note that PLASTX will not remove deep pitting. The lights look very nice and shiny. The haze and embedded bugs are out.
Results:

I am going to smear some good wax on them as well. I read many posts that suggested that good wax will keep them shinning for a long time. Specially after wet-sanding.

PlastX is really good. I did it twice, no more cloudy headlighs.
I think if you clay your headlights befor using plastx, it will be even better...I will try.

They have hairline cracks, cause I over tightened them. They will not cause any issues with fitting.

It is worth it and easier than you would think. I read a lot of posts from different websites that recommended using PLASTX, prior to wet-sanding. I am glad I did not wet-sand. I will take more pics of them installed, once its sunny outside.

It's really good.
This is my car, it has been more than two months since I use plastx.

Did you coat with wax? If so, what brand/kind?

I use Meguiar's Liquid Wax, and the last waxing was one months ago.

Good choice. Sometimes wetsanding is necessary but always try the least aggressive method first. No sense squirrel hunting with a howitzer, right?

From now on, every time you wax your car (which should be 4 times a year), polish the headlights again. Pretty much every G35 I detail needs the headlights polished every time I wax it since the plastic is very prone to hazing.

BTW, the pics were taken from my BB curve. Lights look a lot better than the pics. My wife is in London and took the digi with her...I will post better pics when she returns.

I read your thread in the detailing section. Obviously you know your stuff. I decided not to wet-sand after reading your posts. Thanks for all the tips.

You should try Eagle One nano wax. Results are very good as you can see...... That's all I use, from start to finish.

Lookin good....I use the 3M professional grade plastic cleaner/polish on my headlights/fogs about every 2 months to keep the headlights looking new...Just keep up on the headlights every few months and they will look new for a long time...Also apply a paste wax to them after polishing...

lol Actually it could really use it. They're all yellowish.

O/T,

Just changed a headlight bulb. Had to take the damn battery out just to get in there. And for some reason the bulb wont sit flush in there, so I couldn't get the locking cap on. Screw it, if it comes loose, it comes loose.

I just buffed mine with a soft polish pad and polish/light cut compound... I did it about 3 months ago and they haven't fogged up yet...

Good info zippin, I'm doing mine tomorrow, thanks.

update: The Max looks sweet, I did my son's Volvo as well but since his lights have the wipers I used RainX instead of wax afterwards just to see if it makes a difference.

I tried PlastX a while back, did OK, but not great. After reading this I'mthinking I may not have rubbed long enough. I think I'll try again.
