Is this 5th Gen worth it?
theres a black 2k se at a local dealer in pretty good shape for having 170k miles on it. they were asking 5995 but said they would sell it for 4500 to me. its got new tires, everything looks good. the rotors are warped and theres a small leak from the shifter assy on the trans. i work for infiniti so i would get almost any part i would need for 10% over cost. good buy or bad idea?

it was in pretty good shape. less optioned than i was hoping for. original clutch according to the salesman. i would prefer a 5.5gen 6spd but im not sure if that would be in the cards financially. edmunds said 5k, nada said 4975-7500, kbb said 5675.
You don't want a black car. You may think you do, but you don't. I detail cars for a living and my first black car was my last. Great when my customers have black cars because they always need more work to look good so I can charge more. Black paint is a part time job.
Other than that, since you have access to parts and a discount, if the car checks out, it isn't a bad deal. Plus, whenever the engine goes, swap in the VQ35.

I would wait a little longer if I were you. Thats a lot of miles for a 2k car on its original clutch, I personally don't keep cars past 190k miles. Bear in mind that it probably also has the original shocks, and other small but expensive items just waiting to crap out on you and more than likely in the next 5 to 10k miles.
Just bought my 00 SE 5speed, leather, sunroof, 80K miles for $7K
I was also lookin at 5 series BMW's, but for the same price, they had about 150K+ miles. Miles are kinda important, to me, not everyone.

Thats true it is a part time job. I have a black 02 and you just cant keep it clean more then a day. Gets dusty very fast.
And yeah i dont think its worth it for that much miles. mines only 60k. that cars probably beat.
