260+ lb.ft of Torque on a the 3.5L V6?

I was just over at the dealership today to help my mom pick out a car and noticed that the same engine that's in the 02 Max and the 02 Alt produces 240HP and get this - 260+ (264 or something) lb. ft. of torque on the 02 Pathfinder!

However the EPA mileage is much lower.

But dang! This engine goes a long way in terms of "customization".

It has 246ft pounds of torque, and if you get the new Road & Track you'll see that the 1 complaint all the testers had,was GOD awful torquesteer.

Nope, that's not what the sticker said. It did come with LSD though so i doubt if torquesteer would be a problem. Not to mention that one i saw was a 4x4 SE

Even as shown in Nissan's website:

Automatic
240 hp @ 6,000 rpm
265 lb-ft @ 3,200 rpm

It all comes down to ECU programming these days.

Since it is for an SUV, the engine is tuned differently. It is meant to provide a lot of torque at the low end since it is a lot heavier. A tradeoff may be that the engine in the SUV may run out of breath sooner in the top end.

I would bet money that the truck version uses different cams. Thats a very common approach on everything from 4 cylinders import trucks to Chevy V8s. Truck version motors of corporate engines use cams that are set up for more off idle torque at the expense of high RPM breathing. Typically they have more lift but less overlap. The ECU is of course also adjusted to compensate.
