Stock Maxima 6-speed axles work with Sentra Spec-V 6-speed?

I'm going to put a Spec-V transmission in my Maxima b/c mine is shot and I was wondering if the axles were also the same or if I had to by Sentra ones or whatever. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Spec V bellhousing is different, you'll have to swap the gearsets over.

Diff has different part number (by one digit), but you can just keep your stocker...

That's what Merlyn got a while back, only noticeable difference (obviously besides the HLSD) was the higher cruising RPM, making passing easier in 6th but (negligibly) worse gas mileage.

yeah, the 3.5 6th gear is pointless. i usually just stay in 5th in town. when i tried to accelerate from 80 in 6th, its like trying to get an elephant to start running. open roads with no traffic, i use 6th

Speaking of poor gear selection for acceleration... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mz4KydPG5Yg

Hell the first few months I lived here I didn't think he had even ever used 6th...since it was all city driving. It does help a bit on the highway, of course.

I disagree. I was looking into the 6th gen tranny swap for the LSD, but i'd rather hold off for a 5.5 gen tranny. I love my 6th gear. I do a fair share of city driving, and I'd prefer not to have shorter gears than we already do. For highway cruising and long distances, going 80 at ~2.5k is much better on the MPG. Plus, if I need to accelerate, downshift to 5th.

Instead of swaping the gearsets you can just swap the bellhousing.

Assuming that the rear section has the same bolt pattern for the trans mount and everything else lines up, I suppose.

From: Auburn WA,
best I could do is find some pics for comparison. Hope this helps. The maxima tranny is out of a 04 I couldn't find 5.5 pics real quick.

More info here http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=396124 where it says you can use a sentra tranny with just a bellhousing swap for a 4th gen swap. lots of pics of 6-speed also

maxima 6-speed

Sentra 6-speed

I just want one because the cheapest Maxima HLSD transmission I found was $950 without shipping...I already have the bellhousing and everything else from my old tranny so the total cost for a Spec-V tranny shipped for me would be about $450 as opposed to about $1200......from what I have been researching all you need is the cables/bellhousing from a Maxima 6-speed which I already have....

Personally, the MPG lost from going 5.5 to 6th gen Tranny was not that signification (if you starting talking about 6th gear). With the 6th Gen Tranny you are able to sit in 6th and actually pass people and still maintain 34 (Displaying) MPG. I don't know, my transmission is already out being repaired, and I wouldn't put that taller 6th gear in there or the 300 RPM, personal opinion.

Alright so now I have another question...with the Spec-V tranny do I have to modify anything other then put the bell housing off my Maxima 6-speed? Does everything else bolt right up??? The only real ones that I saw on the search was guys using this tranny in a 4th gen VQ35 swap or the actual VQ35 Sentras...so would everything else bolt up to the Maxima?

From everything I've read i think you should be fine. All the 4th gen swapers are using 5.5 mounts and cables.

I don't think anybody with a 5.5 has tried this yet so no gurentee. You should do it and let us know.

I'm pretty sure it's an identical transmission with the exeption of the FD and bellhousing.

Maby somebody with more knowlege on this will chime in.

I know the tranny will work with the bellhousing into the VQ35...but I am saying like does the actual tranny mounts work with this and after I get the bellhousing on the tranny will bolt right up to the frame?

Well....heres my final hypothosis:

I'm going to unbolt the tranny from the bellhousing then bolt the Spec-V tranny up to it and then I will have an HLSD 6-speed for about 1/2 the cost

Only downside I see is lower gas mileage but I will live plus you would think the lower FD would be a little better on the performance side of it.

So you'll essentially have an A34 FD since Spev V FD = A346MT FD.

Yes, all Spec-V trannies from 02-06 do. 07+ made it an option I believe.

if all of them are hlsd then im opening this spec v tranny i have and taking the diff out and sticking it into my 6th gen 6 speed if the diffs are the same.
6th gen tranny with hlsd is super rare to find and expensive
5.5 gen tranny have weak synchros just like 2002 through 2004 spec v sentras.

point is nissan tranny sucks....

As long as the bellhousing is from a 6 speed maxima you'll be fine. A 5 speed tranny won't work because it's not drilled for the extra shifter detente.

Warning: you NEED to know what you're doing and be very careful when swapping over these parts. You have to completely disassemble the tranny to move the guts, and check ***** and springs have to go back *exactly* as they were. Swapping just the diffs is risky because the output gears always have some wear, and if the mismatched gears don't mesh perfectly the gears will chip.
