CV Joints..BAD!

So I took my 2000 max in for an oil change this morning, and what do you know, turns out my CV Joints are bad! the boots are both Split wide open, and the tech said I dont have long before they are done. The guy at the parts counter said Nissans are 599 each, but he can get some generic ones for 125 each. Are these good prices, or can they be beat, if so where?

Why dont you just go to say partsamerica.com (checker, kruegers, schuks ect) and look one up get the part # or numbers and order them there. The entire axles themselves are only like $70-90 tops with a core charge. Otherwise theres always good ol autozone

It depends what kind they are, I will never buy the autozone ones again, ever, period. They suck, there quality sucks, I've gotten them and had them complete **** remans right out of the box, never again. Now it's only Napa or Raxles, spend the extra $30/side for the napa max drive new ones or like $45 per side for the raxles, TRUST ME. Other options are junk-yards w/new outer boots and grease, or your existing ones w/boots and grease, but yours are probably smoked by now.

very true but at least at the autozones in WI all the axles they sell have a lifetime warentee which they WILL honer even when abused as me and my friends found out firsthand. He has a turbo cavalier and has gotten about 7-8 free axles now, if youve seen a cavi axle there so small and trashy and hes putting down 400+ so its not uncommon to break one for him on a slicks launch at the track. Either way they replace it every time. Not speaking highly of quality here but the Napa ones are real good aswell and raxles speak for themselves. In the end its up to you but dont just go for the first thing you see without searching around here or google about them.

Raxles.com -- I'm having to replace my driver's side right now because the splines are jacked up and frozen inside the wheel bearing.

Do a search on here for raxles and you'll be pleased. They are $150 each for our cars, but make sure you specify manual or automatic.

======
P.S. I never understand why people buy axles that have a "lifetime warranty". That PROVES to you that they are remans or just polished and regreased/booted.

Marty has been taking care of many of us for years. Awsome customer service, excellent axles, excellent warranty, what is not to understand? Support those that support the community, or one day, your only choice will be Autozone or S(ch)ucks.

Thats why I still do my own oil changes, (although I let my mechanic do the brakes). I get to look under the car and see for myself whats bad or going bad. You could have caught this maybe 2 or 3 months ago and only had to buy the boots. Anyway, I would suggest the raxles too, I put them on my old 97SE and they were pretty decent in price.

bad raxle news for 02-03 guys...
just got off the phone with marty. he is no longer making cv axles for our cars. most of his customers have lowered cars and the joints will just go bad again. he said he may work on a redesign for a lowered car. so now i have to get the axle somewhere else. might just pay $450 for a nissan one from dave b.

Autozone here. they work fine for the rest of the life of the car. if the boots break again lifetime warranty even if the car is slammed. I've done it once so if i need to do it again it'll be fast.

say what you will about the "quality" most will talk smack on it, but it's been working fine for a while now. and an old buddy Eric (white 4th gen) said he's tried both....and it wasn't worth the extra mula for him as they broke anyways.... my .02 ....

not to mention i try to support the company that lends out tools and stuff at no cost (where they could easily charge a rental fee) we've all used their rentals before. and before anyone says its only one person.... it all starts with one person.

good luck !
