2003 Auto Tranmission flush

Hi, I just bought an Automatic 03 with 160K on it. Tranmission has been flushed only once at around 90k. The fluid inside the trans...looks pink and doesn't smell burned.
Is it time to flush it again?

YES, drain and refill at least, or better yet, drain, clean screan and magnets and refill.

Wow, that's alot of miles for an 03'.

I would drop the pan, to replace the filter (really just a screen) and clean the magnets.

damn my 2000 barely has 160K on it, lol. Unless it has been done on a regular bases it might not be a good idea.

I would drop the pan clean the screen and magnets, put the pan back up, refill ~4qts that came out of the pan. Take the return line of the radiator put it in to a 1 gallon (clear) container, start the car for about to seconds then shut it off, dispose of the fluid in the container, replace the fluid that came out threw the filler tube and repeat this same process untill you have flushed out the whole system. This should take you somewhere in the area of 14-17qts of fluid including dropping the pan and refilling that fluid.

Of course reattach the return line to the radiator when you are finished.

Thanks... Good info there. However, its very cold here in New York and I'm not feeling well.
Nissan is asking $150 for a transmission flush. I'm thinking of getting it done at a local shop (Costs less). What do you think?

Would let Nissan do it if you don't really want to do it yourself. Unless you know someone who is a Nissan Tech with the right tools to hook you up.

i say go with someone you know if you don't want to do it yourself.. as far as the dealer is concerned, they will probably do a drain/fill and pass it off as a "transmission flush," charging you 150 for the work.. i say do it yourself or take it to someone you know and trust

Dealers do one thing and only one thing well. Sell cars. Everything else is hit and miss...usually miss.

find a dealership you can trust

had what i thought was a bad CV joint. took it to 4 places trying to save money. they all said nothing was wrong with the car. well im not stupid and i knew something was wrong. finally took it to a dealership where ive developed a relationship (read - ive let them know im not stupid and i know about my car). 30 min later - broken rear motor mount.

a dealership will know your car better than anyone else.

bring it to star nissan. im pretty sure you'll get the flush and not just a drain and fill lol. also ask if you can get a free 27pt check while its there. wether you want to fix watever they find or not is up to you. you can always just go to another shop to get a 2nd opinion on the work they say you need.

also for everyone who has a problem with dealerships or the techs, im not saying that your wrong but the dealers around you are probably pretty crappy/shady for you to be hating on them so much. ppl gotta understand not every dealership is the same...

Not unless you're friends with a Nissan Master Tech who's gone independent

i have never had a problem with a nissan service center. im pretty sure that the problems most people have is themselves. they need to know that you are smart enough to not get screwed over.
