SES codes P0159 & P1167

Hey guys, I recently have these codes poped on on my 2k2 Maxima. Tried searching everywhere and could not find anything about it. Stikies won't direct me to the right link, and I even have tried 'old' little trick and it still didn't direct me to the right link.

So can anyone help me with these codes P0159 & P1167?? I know they are P1167 - Heated Oxygen sensor 2 maximum voltage monitoring (bank 2), and P0159 - Heated oxygen sensor 2 Circuit slow response (bank 2).
I'm wondering where exactly are they located so I can replace them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks guys.

Bank 2 Sensor 2 is the front bank? downstream? Now where exactly is that? Which one is it? Can you post a pic/chart of it showing where it's located?

BTW is P0159 and P1167 is the same sensor or what? Sounds like it is.

Front bank == the ...front bank. Towards the front of the car.
Downstream == after the cat.

Yes.

Thanks! ...so it has to be the one after the cat converter. ...Would there be a chart anywhere pointing at where exactly it is, just to make sure not to confuse it with the other O2's. Is it the red one???

jasonmax I'm not sure if that chart is the same for the 5.5 generation. I've seen that chart before, but not sure if our 5.5 gen Maximas are the same design when looking at the 5th gen.

chart is basicly the same for any newer v6 engine with precats and 4 02 sensors.
Like it's been said is the second one down by the radiator side of engine downstream of the first cat.

Which one???

Talked to the OEM part representative and they they I need to replace two of them at the same time (2 oxygen sensors in the bank 2 after the cat) for the proper computer reading. (why if only one is bad?)

they were also kept on asking which one did I need left or right. And I had no idea which one I needed. told them it's the HO2S2-B2 the one after the cat (lower one in the bank 2 according to the chart above)

So which one exactly is it, After Catalyst Right, or After Catalyst Left????? According to the chart above it suppose to be the upper and the lower one if it's in the bank 2. Wierd.

Was looking for the O2 sensors right here http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/se...r&N=0&uts=true

go to your parts guy and tell him left bank after cat. Tell him like this: Look for red harness idiot!
If our guys don't know they just ask us so they don't send you on your way

I just got these same two codes after filling up with 10% ethanol in Virginia. Car has not had any problems, we'd been on the road for 3 hours and stop to fill up...the gas station only had 10% ethanol on all brands. P0159 and P1167....ugh

Bank2 O2 #2
Bank2 O2 #3

I had a P0139 years ago (2002) after I first purchased the car.
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=109968

Nissan replaced the O2 and updated the ECM.

Since this is emissions related, would it be covered under the emissions warranty?

sensors are "wear items" and are not covered

If the ECM is at fault, wouldn't it be covered?

Took my car in this morning. The ECM is up to date, so when they updated my ECM in 2003 there has not been a change since then. My SA said there has been changes in the O2 sensors since that time, so if you've already had one of the TSB's performed listed in NTB02-051a, you're set.

Is there any danger in simply replacing the sensors without re-programming the the ECM? Dealer told me I couldn't do this myself because I could damage the catalytic conv. I think he may be lying about that. Any help is appreciated. - Albert
