they will not turn off until a door is opened or 45 seconds whichever comes first.. if its not doing that, than your SmartEntrance module is freaked out. [/QUOTkE]
so i have to leave the door open for 45 sec? or the light will go off after 45 sec?

I've got the 02 and this is how it works.
If i leave it on Auto and shut down the engine, get out, etc. The light turns off exactly 45 seconds after i leave the car.
I've never tried shutting down the engine and staying in the car with the lights on however so it may or may not work that way.

I leave my lights on AUTO too...
Once I shut down (turning the key in the off position) the lights turns off instantly. If you stay in the car on ACC, then it'll turn off automatically after 45 secs unless you open your door.

On mine, if you don't arm the alarm system, they shut off after 45 sec. But if you hit the "Lock" button on the remote, they turn off instantly.

yeah, when you turn the key out of power or something it should turn off.
hey did you guys notice when you start your car, if you wait for all those beeps to finish, your car starts nice? but when you just start it right away there is some hesitation??

As soundmike said in an earlier reply to this, the 2002 behaves differently, and according to skyjay617's profile, this is exactly what he has.
Standard 2002 behavior appears to be for the lights to stay on until 45 seconds after I've left the car. I've yet to figure out whether it's the act of closing the door or locking the doors that triggers it, since I'm not in the habit of leaving my car sitting around unlocked
It might just be a convenience feature, it might be something to do with it not being good to turn the Xenon HIDs on and off too rapidly. My lights typically flick on when I enter the parking garage and would only be on for 20 seconds or so if the lights went off as soon as the key was removed from the ignition. This way they're on for a minute and a half or so.

I also noticed if i leave my parking lights on, when i pull out the key and open the door they shut off too. Smart feature, never have to worry about leaving my fogs on. (i did that in my saab all the time and killed the battery a few times )
