New 5.5 gen Owner.
Well it has been about 3 months since I sold the G so I decided I wanted another Maxima for the time being and today I found it.
Puchased a Majestic Blue 2003 Nissan Maxima SE with 66,204 miles. It is a 6mt and has the Titanium Edition package,as well as the Meridian Edition Pakage. I do not have any pictures currently but overall I am very pleased with the car. I am in love with the heated steering wheel (can't believe the G's didnt have this). I do however hate the long throws hopefully there is some way to resolve it.
Pictures will follow shortly.

so coming from the G what are your 1st impressions...be honest. I know its a fwd v. rwd discussion but how does the Max compare in terms of power and acceleration?
And NICE car though...any plans for the maxima or are you going to keep it simple?

I can get to the corner fast, slowing down is questionable and body roll is very prevelant. The other thing is the shift throws are very long.
I don't really plan on doing much with this car since I am really waiting for a G37 sedan and would like to keep this a comfortable second car.
I would like to do a STS (I have been reading about the axxtion and so far looks good) ES shifter bushings, Stillen adjustable RSB, altima Se-r brakes and switch to syntetic fluids.

Power is more than adequate stock. I know it will sound silly but I think the 3.5 5.5 gens have too much power for their stock suspensions and brakes. This is how it plays out so far diving this thing:

Good luck with the car!

Thanks for all the info. I have decided against the DIY STS because I don't want to "have to modify the linkage mechanisim". I have a progress/cattman RSB on my 4th gen but I wanted to get the Stillen because it is adjustable and I think it looks cooler. The reason I am going with the SE-R brakes is because i got a set of SE-R calipers on ebay about a year ago for a good price. The yare essentially the same as the 4th gen except they are shaped a little difference and power coated silver with "SE-R" logo.

Zack - The only modification you will have to do is drill 1 hole in the shifter linkage. You don't have to do anything else except put a bolt through it and move the linkage over. You will still have the stock mounting post there. I've witnessed it and have been told on many occasions of it being shorter than the purchased short throw.
Congrats btw. I would have kept the G, but I understand your Oil Consumption issues.
