Transmission slippage?
Transmission slippage?
I had been riding next to a BMW 3 series for a while on the NJ GSP...we come to the toll booth and roll in at about the same time. The guy looks over, driving "Gangsta Style", with one hand on the wheel, the other under his chin, like he's gonna gun it. We roll out of the toll booth (both EZ-Pass), and I punch it only to hear what I can best describe as a loud rasping sound. I look down at my tach, it shoots up to 6k RPM faster than I have ever seen it do, but my wheels aren't moving, the car just kind of kept rolling ~20mph. I let of the gas, hit it again, and this time I'm off.
Is this tranny slippage? Or other problem?
Car seemed fine afterwards...maybe I just hit the gas too hard?

I've experienced what you described, though I wasn't trying to accelerated as fast as you were. It happens, I've experenced so many different trans issues I lost count. I even got my trans replaced under warranty because the dealer found my fluid filled with metal shavings (they couldn't believe I was driving it for so long). Anyways, it shifted good for about a day or two. Now same problems again. I think the transmissions Nissan puts into the Maxima is made not to be used.
had it happen twice
same situation in my 2000 I30. Twice when going slow (~10-15mph) hit the accelerator fast (3/4 down) and the tach goes up, but I don't move any faster. Never happens with normal gradual acceleration or if I floor it from a dead stop.
