if not, they are are exactly the same
What is the difference between the TE and the reg one? That is what i dont know, If it also makes a difference to which i would only want the TE then i will only look at 03's if its something i can live without, then i will focus on both 02 and 03's, also considering that I most likely will be getting the motor pulled out rebuilt and turbo, just wanting to weight out my options.Originally Posted by SoonerFan

2002 Sterling Mist\Black Maxima- 18" Gen 6 Wheels, Angel Eyes, Chrome Grille, 6000K HID Fog Lights
It looks like you already have a 2002?2002 Sterling Mist\Black Maxima- 18" Gen 6 Wheels, Angel Eyes, Chrome Grille, 6000K HID Fog Lights
My friend just picked up a 2001 GXE 5-spd, black w/ black interior, SE taillights, OEM Spoiler, OEM foglights, aftermarket Black leather with 106k miles for $6500. It's in pretty good shape, not really any door dings or anything. Good deal or not?
depending on where you live, that might be a good deal or not so good. too many variables involved to come up with a somewhat good answer (if there's such a thing for such a question).
I thought it was a decent deal. It is really clean. He bought it in Dallas over the weekend. Here is a link to the craigslist add he found it on: http://dallas.craigslist.org/car/653123575.html

Guys I have tried to search but havent found much. What is the different trim models mean ie SE, TE and whatever other ones their are. Also is their one that is better than the other or are they just "trim" pieces. I want black leather interior with either a 5/6spd

look for things as you would any other car... its not superman you know.. it's just a maxima. also you should take it to a mechanic and let them check it out... their judgment should be better than any of ours.

yeah good call.. and one of the cows is under the pass headlight in the reflection idk about the other lol... any one else.. how about knowing if its hlsd or not? something in the VIN?
Senior Member
carfax helps, if you know about body work .. looking for welds.. listen to the gears and smell around if any fluid is burning or if anything is burning in that case. drive it slow, medium, fast..
check the air filter!!! if the person hasnt changed that and its dirty to all hell... need i say more.. carelessness. listen for knocking..
basically anything you can look for that will cause the price to drop really..

LSD was an option but somewhat rare. It makes a big difference on these cars. The LSD cars had different pedals and it's coded in the VIN though I don't remember how. Someone here will know.

Tranny code RS6FS1H means it has HLSD. that can be located under the hood on the firewall. if it says RS6FS1A then it's an open diff. Originally Posted by mist max2000

Good luck...I paid 17.5K for my 2003 fully loaded titanium edition maxima (except navi) with 14,500 miles about 2 and a half years ago if that helps.

burnurass gave the right info about finding out if it is HLSD, drilled pedals would also be a giveaway (unless someone put those on after the fact).
No real way to tell from a test drive/visual inspection if the car burns a substancial amount of oil, unless it is real bad and it visually puffs blue smoke when idling or getting on it. If you did actually find an 03 with under 20k miles and fully loaded for $14.5k I'd probably not have an issue with spending that much. Good luck with the search.

+1 I forgot to mention the pedals...the pedals is an EASY way to see it..but check the firewall to double check.Originally Posted by MintVQ35

an 03 TE with low miles is almost impossible to find, if you found one, go pick it up before someone else does.
p.s. can you post a link of that car you found?

OK, so I'm looking to replace my Pathfinder, and the Max is on my list. My wife has a '99 SE Limited, and I enjoy it immensely.
On AutoTrader, I've found two identical '00 GLEs. Same color (burgundy), same mileage (76K or so), same price ($8900 or so). I figure I can research reliability and stuff on my own, so no problems there.
My only question, more so for curiosity than anything else, is... what's the 0-60 time? They clocked the '99 at 6.6 (I've tested it... it checks out
). I would guess that the '02 would be faster with the VQ35, but what is it exactly?
EDIT: had the year wrong....

I bought a 2001 Maxima SE, 20th Anniversary Edition.
It's a five speed, 106k, and fabulous to drive.
I have one concern. The variable intake runners on the VQ30DE-K, I have been told to fail at around 80k miles, thereby causing a massive power loss. The previous owner, a middle-aged engineering manager, has maintained the car lovingly, but has said nothing about this problem, and a buddy of mine who drives an A32 informed me about it.
My question is: How/what happens when they fail? And what should I do to prevent/fix it?
Thanks,
Moncef
