I hadn't driven my car for 4 days, because i went out of town. When I started up my car this morning after 4 days, the engine was knocking really loud, for about 10 seconds and then it went away. The car drove perfectly, and doesn't seem like their's a problem with the motor. Later on, I had the car sit around for another 6 hours, and it started up fine, without the engine knocking. This is the first time my motor has done this, even when i went on a trip for over a week.

The car has about 180,000 miles, car is maintained regularly, but this is the first time i put in Valero Gas... but i doubt that was the problem.

Any inputs?

what was the oil level?

 

Maybe the oil pump is getting a little weak and after 4 days of no driving it took 10 seconds to get oil pressure back.

 

oil level is at the dot. Engine doesn't burn any oil.

hopefully its just the oil pump and nothing else

 

did your low oil pressure light come on the dash??

At the least i would change the oil filter just in case

 

My oil light flickers and I hear slight knocking when I start. And today, I got a very rough idle and then the car stalled. I tried to drive it and had this herky-jerky move up through 3rd gear (manual). Then lost all power...tried to hit the gas and the tach went the other way towards stalling. I pulled over, turned her off, and when I started up again, all was fine...including three other times throughout the day.

I've got 270K on this baby and I'm thinking I may have a MAF issue or something. I just changed my oil 1K miles ago and already I'm getting low oil light...that is a concern too. Going to try to get codes tonight at Advanced Auto, but from what I've read, nothing may show up.

 

describe what year car you drive. try using castrol GTX

normal.. it happens to mine too.. have 150,000 miles... getting wiser.....
