Car struggles to 3500 RPM then takes off: is this a VIAS or MAF issue?

My car is having trouble reaching 3500 RPMs, then once it finds that mark, accelerates as it should. This happens in every gear.
My first impression was it seemed the transmission was slipping. This is an automatic. The RPMs seem to climb while accelerating but the speed does not match..until I hit 3500 RPM then the car takes off.
I found a similar thread where this guy's car died AFTER 3500 but mine struggles BEFORE 3500.
The MAF has never been replaced (I am back to my stock airbox). No error codes being thrown. I have not checked the VIAS plunger thingy.
Thoughts?

If I leave a traffic light under normal acceleration or a little more, it pretty much feels like the transmission is slipping but the RPMs are going up. Once it hits 3500 it takes off.
If you very lightly accelerate the car seems to work its way up there fine.
When in drive, car downshifts fine. I can shift into D2 or D1 just fine, too.

Pick up some CRC MAF Sensor Cleaner. I had a slight bog around 2500 rpm after I got a K&N panel filter. Sprayed the MAF sensor and screen down with the cleaner and no more bog.
Hey it most likely is the MAF especially on the 5th gens I have the CRC maf cleaner Scott is talking about.
Since you're local stop by the meet on Sunday and we can try it out to see if it helps you any.
Info on the meet is in the South East Regional forums under "1st Annual AMD bbq".
Haven't had the chance to use it.
For me it turned out that I needed new ATF fluid.
