2000 Maxima stalling out

2000 Maxima stalls out (frequently after a rev)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My sister has a new 2000 Maxima. Trouble code: P0430
Its been stalling randomly on her, and when I looked at it, I could get it to stall out almost everytime I revved it up and let the RPM's fall. It seems like instead of dropping to the point where something kicks in and regulates it, it just drops all the way down and stalls.

I thought possibly a vacuum leak or electronics.
Idle Air Control Valve or TPS?

I read in the manual that you can check the the IAC with a meter in the older 1 connector Maximas, but hers has two instead of one.

Any help is a appreciated.

Try doing a search on P0430. I just did and got a bunch of hits; most are pointing at Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2).

Yea I'd already searched it out. Most banter was about a 02 simulator.
There's too many other possibilities to just go buy that.

seafoam it, then give it a good tune up, clean the maf and throttle body. If the car has up to 100k miles I would replace all the sensors.

MAF sensor problem will usually generate multiple codes, looks like the car is going die, but dont worry. Price wise, it cant vary from one place to another here in canada at the dealership its 600$ + tax for a MAF sensor, I suggest you to ask Dave B. from South Point Nissan for a Maf sensor he provides excellent service and prices ! Good luck

Your sister and I have the exact same car and code...The only problem I have with these suggestions is that I replaced the MAF already. My car dies unless I give it gas at startup (only). It's an automatic trans. I'm sure it has something to do with the IAACV thing. I've cleaned fuel injectors, throttle body, and my K and N air filter. I have no vacuum leaks and my PCV valve was replaced the same time my MAF was.

I'm getting a dual output 02 sim to cure the pesky P0430 code. I actually got a new cat to cure the code back in 06' when it was up for smog and it passed. BUT OF COURSE, the code is back...............

i am having some issues with my 2000 nissan maxima,
1) power steering leak frequently, just ordered new
2) codes p 0420, 0430, 0403, 0505, 0731, 0732, 0733, 1440
3) car shuts off when coming to stop or slowing down, but no loss of power, starts right back up
4)car jerks when switching gears, sort of hesitant to changes and than a hard switch(i noticed if i rev hard enough this can be minimized and gears shift smooth)
5) car uses alot of gas, more than usual
6) is it worth fixing?
ps- cleaned maf and throttle body, no change.....
sorry im new here and i really need help with my maxima 2000..please email me at chika87matt@ if u have replies to answer as i dont know how to search replies to my reply posts on here yet any help would be greatly appreciated

My 2000 SE had the same problem (stalling when coming to a stop, then firing up OK).
The short story: it was the MAF sensor (no code!).

Long story: My mechanic did not thihnk irt was the MAF sensor because there was no code. When I insisted, he finally swapped in a good MAF from another Maxima and the problem immediately went away. This was after he replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, checked plugs/coils, etc. I suggested the MAF solution based on input from these discussions.

Check the MAF again!

Had the same problem, changed the MAF sensor - SOLVED!, for another couple days... Since I bought the cheapest MAF I could find, I decided to buy another one. Another one came with the tube, so I decided to remove all that stuff and install a new tube as well. During this procedure I noticed that air intake hose frayed. Fixed it with electric tape, now it works fine.
For those of you who has the same problem, check this hose first ( need to remove all )

Glad I found this long running thread. Have owned my 2000 for three years and it recently started random stalling when letting off the throttle and applying the brakes. Always fires right back up and continue on with the day.

Engine cold or warm and from any road speed. I haven't been able to narrow it down to anything specific.

I will work at the suggestions here and post back what happens.

Replace your MAF sensor with an OEM part. Courtesy Nissan sells the for about $75.
